Dr. Richard Scott Hoffman, MD

Dr Hoffman was recommended by another Ophthalmologist for his experience with uncommon surgeries, and I had a phenomenal experience with him! There were a few complications that required revision procedures, but he was very attentive and detailed throughout the entire process.

Rude and detached. An overexagerated sense of self worth. Wow!

Dr Hoffman has the bedside manner of a lizard. He does not answer your questions and is rude and uncaring.

First of all, if you are going in for a eye exam, you do not receive a exam from Dr. Hoffman. He has his young staff perform the actual exam. He then enters the room for a few short minutes and exits. Last year he saw a small cataract, when I questioned him this year, he seemed surprised by my question. Also, after two visits, I am not returning. His office has made several mistakes, and as a patient, I deserve better care.

Dr Hoffman implied that the fact that he used the wrong power IOL in both eyes was my fault by saying "you'll never be satisfied" This was the last straw for me. He now suggests he go back in and replace one of the IOLs. After he has tried and failed once with each eye, I don't want him to do surgery on me again.

This guy seems more like surgeon than opthomologist: No patient input at all. You're not aperson, juat a pair of eyes. He's not a person, just a pair of hands. May need therapy.

i agree with the person who gave the 2 star review about lack of communication and bedside manner, but to me Dr. Hoffman's diagnoses and surgical skill were more important. I informed myself via the internet about my options for lens implants - none of the people with whom I compared notes about this knew or cared what kind of IOD they received. It reassured me that Dr. H. has received many awards and invented new procedures and tools.

I'm sure Dr Hoffman is very good technically - however, I would never recommend him to a friend. His office actually TIME when you come in. The doctor spends, at most, 5 minutes with you. He looks in your eye, gives his pronouncements from on high about what he thinks should be done (always the most expensive options first, such as sewing shut your eyelid, when it has been improving with much less invasive procedures), never asks if you have any questions, never gives you any informed consent information about what he's proposing (don't know how he gets away with this), and then waltzes out the door. I have been seeing him and Dr Sims for the last 5 months, and wish I had never switched doctors. At least the other doctor acted like he cared about me.
