Dr. Alexander John Smirnoff, MD

My Husband with Parkinsons has been seeing Dr. Smirnoff for about 6 years. We have had numerous appointments and have been treated with kindness and professionalism from the physician and all of the staff. As his disease has progressed, Dr. Smirnoff has carefully regulated his medications and has listened patiently to my husband describing his issues and difficulties, likes and dislikes. My husband has responded well to medication changes and although he will never be cured, we are comfortable knowing this office and the physician will treat him well, give him options, and listen to both of us to get a clear picture of disease progression. He is honest, very up front yet kind. I am a nurse and have worked with many physicians. Dr. Smirnoff may not always be able to give you the answers you want to hear but he will give you the information you need to hear and will help you through difficult times with patience and kindness.

I had my appointment yesterday, I am not sure why he has gotten so many negative reviews unless you went in with an attitude yourself. My appointment was on time from the front desk to the medical assistant to Dr. Smirnoff himself who could not have been more professional and pleasant. We had several conversations before the exam which made me comfortable and at ease. His exam was detailed and extensive. I went in with a number hand digit. We spoke about treatment/causes and options letting me be part of the treatment plan. I worked in the medical field for many years and could not have had a better experience. If you want an honest, pleasant doctor he is the one.

This was my first visit to Dr Smirnoff. He took the time to explain his very throrough exam and the followup tests that were needed. I would highly recommend his practice!

I have waited almost 3 months to get an appointment with Dr Smirnoff. Today the office called to remind me it is this Wednesday which is the same day I am leaving for a couple weeks for out of town. The person who called me was the rudest person I have spoken to in a real long time. She only works there and is not the owner. My opinion!!!!! but she needs to be replaced or sent to Customer Service School if there is one. She could easily be replaced.Extremely bad reflection of Dr. A. J. Smirnoff.

BEWARE: I was told I had a stoke. I was in the hospital 3 days. I had two MRIs done. All kinds of test done on my heart. The Dr said I didn't but had Syncope. That didn't answer why I couldn't get up after I fall 6 times and my legs were rubber. I couldn't get up. Then he said I was a diabetic. The test is done I wasn't. All the bad reviews I agree 100%. He was rude. His wife works the front office. She was totally rude. I had two more appointments I canceled them. Will not going back.

I saw Dr. Alex Smirnoff at Smirnoff Neurology because I was having neck and lower back pain off and on for several years. Despite the Dr. Having a busy schedule I did not have wait more than a couple weeks for an appointment. The office staff was friendly and handled my insurance quickly so that I saw Dr. Smirnoff with no issues. An extremely thorough examination was followed by MRIs, X-Rays, and a nerve conduction test, which luckily showed no serious problems. Dr. Smirnoff was very patient and took sufficient time to explain all the test results and potential treatments. We tried a back stretching table but Dr. Smirnoff righty said it was unlikely to help but worth a try. I was proscribed some muscle relaxers and to be more aware of posture and things have slowly improved. Neurology problems are complicated so I would recommend the knowledgeable Dr. Smirnoff and his fine office whole heartedly.

Dr. Smirnoff is the worst, meanest doctor I have ever met! He is rude! Has a terrible bedside manor, and yelled at me several times!! "We can do this the hard way or the easy way"!! He had no consideration of the pain I was in wan he was sticking me with painful needles that caused electrical impulse feeling in my legs!! I left his office crying and sweating! I felt traumatized for days after the appointment. I don't trust him! I highly, DO NOT recommend him.!!

Half of my body was paralysed when I was brought to the Regional Hospital in The Villages. After studying my symptoms Dr. Smirnoff administered "TPA". Within 24 hours, all of the paralysis was gone and I have had no after effects. Dr. Smirnoff returned my life to me.

Dr. Smirnoff is a great doctor. He looked at a scan I had on my brain after the imaging office siad it was satisfactory, and determined it was not. He sent me to a surgeon who performed surgery for NPH. I have never felt better in lots of years! Joy H

I visited Dr. Smirnoff for a back and also a neck injuryand he also treats my elderly mother for dementia. Dr, Smirnoff is very professional and kind to his patients. He carefully and patiently explains the diagnosis and remedies available to help. He never rushes you out of the office and allows patients to ask questions and always takes the time to answer. Dr. Smirnoff is very intelligent and well read, so he has a thorough understanding of what methods are necessary to help his patients achieve an optimal outcome. I was amazed at how kind Dr. Smirnoff was to my mother. There are days when my mother thinks she is severely ill and calls Dr. Smirnoff's office multiple times. He and his staff always try to help and never get annoyed as they always put patients health first. I met Dr. Smirnoff when a local doctor told me I needed a neck surgery. The doctor scheduled the appointment with the neurosurgeon etc... I went to Dr. Smirnoff for help after my Orlando Neurologist… told me Dr. Smirnoff is the best in this area. Upon arrival to the office, without an appointment, Dr. Smirnoff's staff saw I was distressed and scared. I explained how I was worried about the surgery. Vickie Smirnoff listened to me and then said, "would you like to see the doctor now, today?" I thought, "this is super luck for me." This is real compassion for patients. Vickie Smirnoff later told me she quickly helped me, because she saw I was stressed and did not want me to have to worry for days while waiting for an appointment. When I visited Dr. Smirnoff he concluded that I had a shoulder injury and that was the cause for my arm being weak. He told me to stop doing heavy bench press and squats and showed me alternative exercises. I listened and have had no issues since and did not need a complex neck surgery. I want to mention how Dr. Smirnoff and his wife Vickie stayed late on this day after closing time simply because he allowed me to have an office visit on a day when he was already fully booked. This is real compassion and commitment to patient health that we do not often see.. Also, during the visit Dr. Smirnoff did not rush me and he took a lot of time showing me the proper exercises to avoid injury. A few years later I thought I had a back injury. I again went to Dr. Smirnoff and he was patient and asked what type of exercises I was doing, etc. Dr. Smirnoff ordered a Ct scan of my back and again saved me from surgery. He showed me which exercises to stop doing and taught me alternative exercises that I can do and not cause injury to my back. I feel better and have a healthy back and live without pain thanks to Dr. Smirnoff. I highly recommend Dr. Smirnoff and his wife Vickie, as I love going to a doctor who is highly intelligent and also highly compassionate and caring for his patients. I also like how the practice has a small town family business feel. When you go you do not feel like you are in a patient mill, instead you feel like you are in a local family owned office where patients are the number one priority. If you are in need of a neurologist this is the best in the area. When I lived in Orlando I saw a Neurologist for a seizure disorder. Luckily this was cured. The Orlando doctor is always chosen as the best neurologist in Orlando-Central Florida area, by the selection committee. He specifically said Dr. Smirnoff is the absolute best in the Villages area. He is the doctor who told me to go to Dr. Smirnoff so I did not have to drive to Orlando to his office. . This doctor is the type who will not hesitate to tell a patient who is good or not with regards to doctors. He quickly said you will be fine with Dr. Smirnoff and further stated he would go to Dr. Smirnoff for his own health issues if he needed to see a neurologist. Asstated above, Dr. Smirnoff properly diagnosed my issues and I have been fine.
