Dr. Alisa Kim, MD

My mom is 85 years old with a heart condition. She has been going to Dr. Kim for a few years. But after the last visit with Dr. Kim, mom decided not to go back to her because of very poor doctor services. After mom waited for over 50 minutes in the patient room, Dr. Kim comes in and spends 2 minutes with her, but that's not all that Dr. Kim did poorly. Dr. Kim was talking to my mom so fast, even if you were another doctor, I don't think anyone would have understood what she was mumbling about. Dr. Kim was in a such a hurry that her body motion and her mouth motion was the same. It was so fast and so swift, my mom felt like she was in a flea market! Dr. Kim's mouth was running like a tape recorder that fast forwarded like the radio commercial when they advertise about credit cards and don't want you to hear any of the small information details. It was awful how Dr. Kim treated my 85 year old mom. Dr. Kim didn't care about the patient but rather her behavior was as if she only cared… about going through how many patients on a daily basis. Mom's previous visits were more or less the same with Dr. Kim but this particular visit was the worse. Dr. Kim made my mom wait even longer, talked even faster and got out of the room in 2 minutes!!! it could probably break the Olympic record of any patient/doctor relationship. For this poor services that Dr. Kim is providing her patience, many of mom's friends who are elderly have all gone to different doctors. They were very unhappy about Dr. Kim's services and it was getting worse as she got busier with more patients. Dr. Kim needs another doctor in that office or she needs to see less patients to serve them with respect and with care. She spent absolutely no time with the patient and walked out to the next room to another patient. Most horrible experience! After mom's last visit, mom was so stunned that she couldn't even say a word when Dr. Kim left the room. We had to digest what she tried to tell us and what she wanted mom to do next to relieve her eye pain. How can a doctor talk to a patient like a machine going so fast that you have to rewind the tape and listen to it at a slower speed? It was a ridiculous service she provided to my mom. Mom wonders what the solution could be for a doctor who runs her office like a factory and talks so fast that no one understands ... Is this ethical practice for a doctor?

I saw Dr. Kim at an initial visit, at which time she asked me to return after getting ultrasound and strabismus tests perormed elsewhere. I did as she advised and had the test results within a few weeks. I then scheduled a follow-up appointment with Dr. Kim, which she canceled. She then canceled 2 other appointments, as well. At one point, when I asked “why,” I was told that “it’s a judgment call” on Dr. Kim’s part. After my initial appointment with Dr. Kim, I never saw her again. I eventually gave up and went to another specialist. I wrote Dr. Kim a certified letter explaining my disappointment in having appointments repeatedly canceled. I did not receive a response.

Dr. Kim is the most thorough Ophthalmologist I have ever experienced. She is super intelligent, very matter-of-fact, and very personable.

First rate and top notch

Dr. Kim is thorough, professional and has superb interpersonal skills. She listens and is very engaged and informative. She spends time with patients. One of the top doctors in any speciality I have ever consulted. I have had surgery with her, office consultations and also sent my children to see her. First rate. Her office staff are highly competent, fast and efficient and staff are professional and courteous.

I cant say enough good things about Dr. Kim. Smart. Kind. Bright. Attentive. Brilliant. Funny. She is an extremely caring and good doctor. A real gem

Dr. Kim is simply put, one of the best doctors I've ever had. She not only remembers the smallest details of my case from a year ago (without even referring to her notes), she is incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful and puts an amazing amount of thought into following up with her patients to make sure that they have the right treatment and follow up care. I would trust her to treat anybody in my family.

Dr. Kim dignosed and treated the problem at the same time. She was very good.

Dr. Kim is really awesome. She takes time to talk to you and is really smart. I dont like visiting doctors but I can honestly say that Dr. Kim always makes me laugh and brightens my day. I had a tricky cornea issue and Dr. Kim helped me manage it better than any other specialist I have seen. I rarely comment on these types of sites but I wanted to put in my two cents because I think this particular doctor is really very special and talented.

I have gone to Dr. Kim for several years--since she was over at Hopkins. Im so thrilled that she is in Bethesda now!! She helped me take care of an issue that two other ophthalmologists said could not be cured. I even sent my mother to her for her cataract surgery. The outcome, as expected, was perfect. She sees better than ever. She is completely free from using glasses of any kind--something that she said has not been the case since she was 12 years old.
