Dr. Andrew Joseph Michael, MD

Dr. Michael treated me for an allergy to eye drops that no one else could find. So much relief. He performed my cataract surgery as well. I highly recommend him.

Took time to explain everything in the office. Talked to me and reassured me during my surgery. Amazing result! I can see like never before!

I just had eye surgery today with Dr Michael and his team, I was VERY nervous of the surgery, however Dr Michael and his team ease my worries! All went well, I appreciate him and his team! Shout out to my nurse Allison and the Anesthesiologists! Job well Done:)

Dr. Michaels is extremely Hyperactive, which can be good but has a zero bedside manner. Did my right eye procedure with no problem but a week later had my left eye done. The local block that was administered by the Anesthesia MD was placed too high resulting in my feeling everything during my surgery EVEN after telling the OR nurse and Dr Wright REPEATEDLY that I could feel everything he was doing... that it burned.... that it was painful.... that it hurt..... that it was extremely painful....that he needed to stop! He did nothing but tell me to relax but NEVER accessed my anesthesia block. I reported this to my referring doctor, Stoney Point outpatient Surgery Center Administrator and to Dr. Wright’s associate who did my follow up exam. At NO time did Dr. Wight follow up with a call to me, which I found inexcusable. I did personally set up an appointment with Dr. Wright to personally discuss this with him. Even after we discussed how many attempts I made directly to him,… he never admitted he did anything wrong. Note to readers... I was the Emergency Department Nursing Manager at Duke Medical Center for over 18 years. I am a strong proponent of patient’s rights and Dr. Wright totally violated every right I had. He totally disregarded my pleas for help during my surgery. I would suggest that you think very carefully before you have him do your surgery.

His colleagues recommend him highly as a great physician medically but warned that he can come off as rude, impatient and arrogant. I visited him a couple of weeks ago and now understand the reason for their comments as well as the comments from the other patient reviews. My immediate impression of him was that he is very affable and friendly. He greets everyone with a joking and somewhat loud manner. But, once you try to have a conversation with him or start asking him questions, you immediately sense something is missing. He will become very dismissive, impatient and rude talking past or through your questions and wanting to move on to the next patient. I am not sure if it is his intent is to be rude or if he is just compensating for other deficiencies. For that I am giving him the benefit of 3 stars.

After my last visit I have decided to find a new doctor. Every time I asked him a question he would say “we talked about that last time, don’t you remember?” He said that many times. The last time I saw him was 6 months earlier. I want my questions answered. I don’t need to hear anything but the answers to my questions . Since he can’t do that I am moving on. I refuse to go to a doctor that I feel worse leaving than I did going in.

Very rude Dr. and poor beside manor. Almost like he makes fun of the patient in front of their face. He laughs and makes jokes with the technician about his patients.

My mom was referred to see Dr. Michael from her primary care for a really intense sty. Her eye was almost swollen shut. We waited 2 hours to see the Dr. I was OK with that because she was squeezed in, but the treatment from the doctor was unacceptable. My 78 year old mom was agitated as she had waited so long. She had already seen a technician and been examined and he came in and asked what was wrong (had not read any notes.) She said, "Look at my eye" and he said ok and sat there. She said, "It hurts" and he said, "Oh, well, see, I couldn't tell that from looking at it." What a jerk. He talked down to her and patronized her the entire appointment. She was in tears when we left. There is no excuse for such arrogant, rude behavior from a Dr. She was asking him questions about her treatment at the end of the appointment and he was rude again. She couldn't remember the OTC ointment she was using and he said, "Well, how can I tell you whether or not to keep using it if I don't… know what it is?" Just deplorable. Sarcasm has no place in a situation when someone is in pain and needed some kindness.

I was so pleased with Dr. Michael's treatment. He and his staff are very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I wouldn't go to anyone else for surgery on my eyes .

I had a procedure done that relieves pressure behind your eyes. He only did one eye at a time. After each eye you had to have a followup appointment 2 weeks later. After that I needed another followup 2 weeks after that because they said you can not tell if it worked until a month after you have it done. After getting the second eye done I changed the two week followup and decided myself to wait after a month for the followup, and after going to that, they wanted me to come back in another 2 to 4 weeks again because they said you cannot tell until 6 to 8 weeks after the laser procedure is done. My insurance pays for followups 100% on pretty much all followups, except for these because it does not make sense to them either why all of these followups are needed. The procedure did relieve pressure from my eyes, however nothing has changed from the first 2 week follwup to all of the other followups 4 months later. If all these followups were truly needed insurance would cover them. It… seems this doctors office apppears very greedy making you come to these appoinments which do not benefit you what-so-ever!
