I came to New York on recommendation to see Dr. Rokito. At a major northeast hospital I was told I needed surgery. Dr. Rokito walked me through an analysis of MRI and X-ray images and told me I could be treated without surgery. He drained my knee, gave me a cortisone injection, and prescribed physical therapy with explanation; I was walking 90 % normal in 2 days. He took time to explain t all.

"Initial Quote" prior to surgery did not include hospital costs (after surgery). I received bills for the sling I woke up with from some third party company ($250 I believe). There were at least $5,000 in hospital/anesthesia costs. The quote I received was for surgeon costs and anesthesia, so I was shocked to hear that I owed several thousand dollars more. This was sent to collections within 2 months after my surgery! It was "technically" an estimate, as I was told afterward. This is primarily NYU Langone's fault. With-that-being-said. What people are saying about him are all true. He gives you all the time in the world when he's in the office; no sweat off his back. He was the only doctor, out of 4 that viewed my MRI, that told me I had a seriously torn labrum in my shoulder. After surgery, he showed me pictures of the labrum barely hanging on to my humerus. I do however, wish he stressed physical therapy more and tracked my progress, but that is my own fault and my choice for not… going to physical therapy as I should (due to costs of PT visits). If I could do it all over again, I would go at least once a week to PT. My shoulder has been amazing ever since. I even believe it's better than ever. He snipped the remaining piece of labrum, tightened things up, and put in 3 or 4 sutures (I don't recall exactly).

Have seem him a few times for a shoulder issue. Have seen several orthopedists, and so far he is the most likeable , trustworthy, and not surgery happy of the bunch. I cant speak to his surgery skills, but he is certainly smart, and seems to really care. I felt many other ortho's were suggesting surgery for my minor issue , but Rokito wants it as the last resort, which is the intelligent approach. I cant say he fully answered all of my questions with many details, but I certainly trusted and liked him and found him very knowledgeable.

Dr. Rokito was very attentive BEFORE the surgery but after the surgery, where there was a very serious lifetime complication, he was indifferent. He provided cursory post op exams and then I never heard from him again. I would not recommend Dr. Rokito, his surgical team or NYU Hospital for Special Surgery
