Dr. Annemarie Alyse Spooner, MD

Been a patient for a number of years of being brushed off and my health concerns not being taken seriously- no longer a patient as of today. Dr. Spooner lets her staff be her voice without telling them all of the details. They purposefully do not answer specific questions so that you are forced to schedule an appointment and pay a copay for a 5 min. visit to get one question answered. She cares more about her staff than her patients without listening to legitimate concerns about their care of her patients. Don't bother- she will never care about your health concerns like a good doctor should.

Dr. Spooner is awesome! She actually takes time to answer your questions and she is very kind and compassionate.

I've never written a review but I felt my experience might help anyone not familiar with the way this office bills their patients and you can avoid what I went through. I went to this office when I needed an annual visit and my previous doctor had retired. The doctor(Dr. Spooner) was nice enough and sat me down for a discussion at the beginning asking questions about my health, etc. I answered her questions and when she suggested I do a couple of blood tests I didn't think much of it. I was shocked when I got a bill for $350 from the lab and a copay bill from this office. Keep in mind my insurance covers my annual exam 100%. Apparently if you answer questions and discuss anything outside of your wellness visit, they charge you for an additional office visit and tests will not be covered etc. even though it was all the same day. I was so upset and disappointed and when I called the office, their response was that they hear this frustration all the time and that they are sorry. What? You… hear this all the time and yet you still don't tell your patients in advance that if they answer the doctor's questions they are going to be charged separately for multiple visits. I tried to argue that this is very dishonest and unethical but the doctor said, that because she discussed more than a pap smear and breast exam that I owed for an additional visit. We don't all have $400 to dish out to a routine appointment that we thought would be covered. I would have never done any of these tests if it wasn't for the doctor suggesting and encouraging me to do them. How grateful I am that I told her I didn't need a few of the other tests she suggested or I'd probably be owing in the thousands. It really makes you appreciate dentists and optometrists and other care takers that ask you before they do procedures that will not be covered by insurance. I will never step foot into this office again and I cannot recommend her based on this completely frustrating experience.

This doctor is wonderful. She has been competent and thorough in every interaction. BUT she uses an extremely incompetent billing service, so I cannot recommend her. Twice now I have received incorrect bills which it then becomes MY responsibility to straighten out. Today I received a bill for services that I PAID FOR AT THE TIME!! I'm not sure why the billing company even got any information on that, since it was already paid for, but they charged me and now it is my responsibility, according to Dr. Spooner's receptionist, to call them and straighten it out (it was in the computer notes she sent, I'm told). I don't know why it's up to me to fix their problem, but since it's my credit report at stake, I will have to spend my time to do it. Very unhappy.

great advise on my health path

Very knowledgeable about current medical practices and information. Always impressed with her level of care, memory (my goodness!) on specific issues and history, and follow up. Sometimes it's difficult to get through to their office and return calls are expected opposed to getting a live person if you need to schedule an appointment. I very much wish a secure, HIPPA compliant, communication alternative would be implemented. I know my GP has one, which worked wonders when I was 12 hours ahead in another part of the world. Other than that, if that doesn't pose an issue for you, I highly recommend Dr. Spooner. She is lovely.

Lost sample, and didn't notify until four months later. The results of this testing could have had long term effects (infertility, etc) but was given no apologies or remorse about leaving me in the dark for FOUR MONTHS. I had to get retested out of state, racked up $200 in out of pocket costs due to their error. STAY AWAY

If you are looking for a professional, caring, and concern doctor, Dr. Spooner is the right doctor for you. After filling out the questionnaire she took the time to go over the form and asked questions. I have recommended her to many of friends, and they all love her.

First, Dr. Spooner is hands down the best gynecologist I've ever seen. She is extremely knowledgeable and has the best bedside manner I've ever encountered. Her nurse, Eileen, is equally amazing. Her front office staff, however, is simply terrible. They do not return voicemails, and never call back when they say they will. They enter appointment times incorrectly and then blame patients for not showing up on time. If you use Dr. Spooner, make sure to double check your bills and compare them to your insurance EOBs. I've noticed several coding errors, and they've charged me for "noncovered services" that my insurer actually would cover if they provided adequate information (the type of injection I received, for example). I'm willing to endure the ineptitude because Dr. Spooner is so wonderful, but I'm not sure my patience is interminable.
