Dr. Anupama Upadya, MD

POTENTIAL PATIENTS, PLEASE READ FIRST - An initial visit to Dr. Anupama Upadya at the Center for Sleep and Lung Disorders in Lady Lake FL (NPI# 1922067834) was the SINGLE WORST EXPERIENCE IN A DR.S OFFICE in all our 60+ years!! My husband had completed an ‘at home’ sleep study and the outcome was to be evaluated for sleep related hypoxia (G47.36) and we decided to see Dr. Upadya for this follow up. From the moment she started the appointment, Dr. Upadya was argumentative, combative and dismissive, continually cutting us off and not allowing us any opportunity to discuss my husband’s significant health issues. She indicated, repeatedly, that since he had completed an ‘at home’ sleep study, which she indicated was “garbage”, insurance would not pay for the sleep study she would require at her facility. Once she decided that our insurance would not pay for a second sleep study, she offered to end the appointment, offered this about six times in the span of 15 minutes and even walked out… of the office twice. Never even asked about self-pay. We asked her, more than once, if we could just talk about the medical issues he is experiencing and take the insurance issue out of the conversation, and she was unable to do that, always returning to the insurance issue. She wouldn’t allow us to tell her about his medical issues or very concerning symptoms and disregarded all the test results and medical information we tried to provide to her. Even when we asked for her help, indicating my husband was struggling, she just stayed steadfastly focused on the insurance issue, upsetting us so that it exasperated my husband’s breathing issue right then and there. Never before have we witnessed a Dr. be less interested in a patient’s care and immediate need for medical intervention, and only be concerned about payment. Once she decided our insurance was not going to pay for another sleep study, she cancelled our appointment and couldn’t get us out of her office fast enough. She offered no medical advice or intervention or even a referral. She should have her medical license revoked as she has no concern for the patient, not one bit!!

She takes the patient history herself and in person and does a physical exam. She shows that she understands what you are saying and makes it clear she will try to get to the root of the problem.

I want to address a negative narrative posted on feb 18 2019 by a person which I will not call her patient and is posting a incorrect slanderous comments about a doctor I have the highest respect for . !st issue is she violated FL statues laws for refusing to care for a patient. I would like to correct this persons error as a doctor has a right to refuse to see a patient if the patient is aggressive and disrespectful to a doctor. Your health at this visit was not compromised and you could breath otherwise the doctor would of stablized you and sent for a ambulance to send you to ER. Then you say she had a emotional breakdown! Never in the years of being her patient have i witnessed anything but a calm professional doctor who would listen to my health complaints and offer suggestions that she did not need to but you see she cares for her patients, sincerley cares which try to find doctors today that are like she and her husband who went thru years of pre med, med school and… internship because they truley care about their patients and they are intelligent and know the FL Statues better than anyone as this is there life and professional career and for someone like this person to defame a wonderful doctor is just wrong and borders on legal issues in my mind as you telling others to use legal action and to record there visits? Why would any patient do such a thing unless they had malevolent actions to sue doctors for monetary reasons. A doctor patient relationship is built on TRUST!! and this doctor I trust with my life and I am offended that someone would write such a slanderous, lying, demeaning review. I know any doctor reading your inaccurate review of Dr A Upadya will want to know who you are because no doctor will want the liability of such a patient . SHAME ON YOU. I hope DR Upadya can see if legal actions can be done for your lies, slander and defamation and wishing others do her harm. Cathy

Dr. A. Upadya is the most caring down to earth professional .She sincerely cares for all her patients and never have i been treated in a inhuman manner but when i go to my doctor I follow office rules such as turning off my cell phone as I have noticed many patients today are on their cell phones and I have witnessed many times patients called to the exam room only to be on there phones talking,texting and the doctors staff having to wait for the patient to finish! This is a lack of RESPECT by patients i see way too often in the Lady Lake/Villages, FL area doctors offices. I have also witnessed patients disrespecting office staff by mimicking and showing outrageous disrespect towards the office staff or demanding attitudes complaining in the waiting room because they have waited 5 minutes but was late by many hours but was booked in and going to be seen by the doctor anyway. But then the elderly man threw a pen at the girl behind the desk after filling out some paperwork, that… action the patient was told to leave. This behavior was not seen in Dr Upadya's office but in other doctors office nearby. As a former RN I have worked with many doctors and to find such a caring respectful doctor as Dr. A. Upadya is a rareity today. She has been my Narcolepsy specialist for many years since I moved to FL and I have the utmost respect for her professionalism and her genuine kindness towards human beings, she and her husband are 2 of the best doctors in FL and the negative reviews are suspect at best as she will give you all the time you need to discuss any issue and is sincere and heartfelt care for her patients. She knows our time is just important as her time but please people be respectful of cell phones and doctors times. As my father a immigrant to this country always told me "treat people the way you want to be treated" I wish more patients in this area of FL would be considerate of each other as we all have bad days but there is no reason to disrepect another human being. Dr Upadya and her Cardiologist husband are 2 of the very best professionals that care! Cathy

Dr. Upadya has been treating me for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) since Feb. 2017. She adjusted my CPAP machine air flow to align with my needs for more or less air flow throughout the night. She has always been very professional and answered all my questions promptly. Her staff has always been courteous and worked with me on addressing any issues in between my scheduled appointments.

This is my first internet review. I felt compelled to tell my story so others can protect themselves Anupama was very rude to me and when I simply asked her to speak in a kind non condescending manner she said, "leave my office." I said, "I am ill and need help." The response was I do not care leave. I personally witnessed Anupama engage in an uncontrollable unprofessional state of unfriendly emotion outrage when a person talks on their cellular phone while in the lobby. I was not treated with dignity as required by Florida Statute Section 381.026(4)(a). Anupama approached me and rudely said, "you are not allowed to talk on the phone." I apologized and quickly walked toward to door to go outside and comply with her rule. This was not sufficient as she followed me, while pointing to a sign on a door stating cell phone is prohibited. I was amazed that a professional doctor would act in such a condescending childish manner toward patients. Interesting how the focus was on who is talking… on a phone instead of who can I help today. Initially, I felt sorry for Anupama, as she obviously was not able to conduct herself in a professional manner to be expected of a licensed professional doctor. In my opinion Anupama obviously has underlying unresolved emotional issues cloaked in manifestations of misery and unhappiness generally. When I was taken in for an office visit, I politely asked Anupama not to treat me with disrespect and to speak in a respectful professional manner when talking to me. I was careful with my choice of words as in my opinion I understood that Anupama was a dramatic person who did not have ordinary reasonable control over her emotions at the level to be expected of a licensed professional doctor. As an attorney I know how to communicate in a professional cordial manner. Anupama gave me my office visit fee back and said leave. I said I am ill and need immediate medical help today. She said I do not care leave now. I quickly discerned that this type behavior is atypical of an ordinary professional doctor. Again I opined that Anupama was suffering from an underlying emotional issue. Anupama did not offer to procure other medical assistance via another doctor's office as she should have done and is required to do under the medical legal duties to patients. She simply let her emotions cloud her professional judgment and succumbed to same and continued on a childish rampage with a complete lack of empathy. I love doctors and have the upmost respect for them. However, in my opinion a doctor who throws patient's out for simply asking to be spoken to in a reasonable respectful manner is a disgrace to the profession. This is especially so when the profession sets a standard requiring doctors to be kind and professional. A true professional would put their erratic, impulses aside and act with candor and professional demeanor and focus on treating diseases while not engaging in childish behavior. In my opinion such was not the case here. I think it is very immature to tell a patient to leave simply because they ask to be spoken to in a normal non condescending manner. Pursuant to Florida Law a doctor can be sued for abandonment if same causes damages to the patient. A doctor has a duty to procure adequate medical help for you when they terminate the relationship. If, by failing to do so, you are injured you will have a cause of action against the doctor. I noticed a lady posted how Anupama forcefully removed her cell phone from her hand. If I were you I would contact your attorney and depending on the specific facts you may have a cause of action against the doctor for assault and battery. Luckily I have close doctor friends who were able to procure immediate help from another doctor the same day. When going to this office I would suggest Caveat Emptor- Buyer Beware. Document all communications, witnesses, actions, and observations with Anupama in the event you need to make a medical malpractice, infliction of emotional distress or abandonment claim against her. Is always available to arrange an appointment have been a patient for about 6yrs. can say enough about her treatment and knowledge.

Dr. Upadya is my favorite of all my doctors. She is always on time and actually comes to the waiting room, shakes my hand and accompanies me to the exam. She is professional but not overbearing. She is a friendly, caring physician and I never feel rushed like some of my doctors. As far as I'm concerned, her staff could not be more friendly, courteous, and efficient.

Have been extremely happy with Dr. Upadya. She is very caring, patient and thorough.

After 3 weeks, her office called to grant appointment. Caller was rude, arrogant, and sarcastic.
