Dr. Meyers recommended a lymph node dissection in my husband's throat cancer case. Numerous other physicians in his field said his advice fell below the standard of care given the size of the one palpable lymph node in my husband's neck. Dr. Meyers gave untrue answersto our specific questions about possible risks of surgery and minimized the risks of the unnecessary surgery. He severed the 11th cranial nerve in the procedure, a common risk of the procedure which he did not disclose. He did not use a nerve stimulator to identify the location of the nerve, which could have prevented the injury. The result was paralysis of the shoulder, with intractable chronic pain, which is a common outcome of a severed 11th cranial nerve, and which is why other ENT physicians don't recommend the procedure under circumstances such as those in our case. I would NEVER rely on his advice or surgical skills again.
