Untrustworthy surgeon. I chose Dr. Tewari after lot of research; he happens to be probably the most experienced surgeon who does Robotic Radical Prostatectomy. I paid a lot and travelled long distance just for his vast knowledge and expertise in this field but ended up having a bitter experience. Prior to the operation, I asked him if he will do the main part of the robotic surgery himself and he said yes he will. Under anesthesia, patients do not know who did what but before I went back home, I found out from someone that main part of the robotic procedure was done by another surgeon with much much less experience than Dr. Tewari. At the follow-up visit, when I asked Dr. Tewari why he let other doctor do the main part of the procedure when he promised during my initial conversation with him that he will do the main robotic procedure himself, he did not answer my question and looked away. When I asked again, he again avoided me and started talking to his PA about his schedule. It… is morally and ethically wrong for a doctor to do what he did to me thinking that patients under anesthesia will never know about it. I had much worse outcome than most other patients and what I expected from Dr. Tewari as my urologist; I strongly believe that I would have had better outcome if top notch surgeon Dr. Tewari did the entire robotic part of the procedure by himself as he promised. He betrayed my trust big time. I later found out on-line, as well as talking to other patients, that they had similar experience as mine with Dr. Tewari allowing other doctor to do the Robotic procedure even though he promised to do it by himself during consultation at the initial visit to his office. I wish some governmental regulatory body in New York looks into this issue so that other patients are not misled by him. It is very critical for a doctor to do what they agree and promise to their patients they will do. If they don’t, they cannot be trusted. If a doctor cannot be trusted, no amount of education, training, or experience matters to their patients.

Worse doctor. Runs practice and missed my cancer diagnosis. Stay away and save your life.

just nowNEW I've made a few bad choices in my life! Dr. Ash Tewari was definitely one of my best choices! If you've got prostate cancer go see 34 doctors, then go see Dr Tawari! Do your due diligence!record every visit with each doctor, this way you can go back and listen to what they said! Every case is different ! Dr. Ash Tewari explains everything, so don't say I didn't know this could happen after your operation good or bad! Every situation is different, just make sure you do your own homework! Remember you have the final say! Good luck! PS I am now cancer free! Ash Tewari was my best decision in life! The staff is top notch and very professional! Awesome!

Totally disorganized. Failed to do proper tests. MRI’s misread Might be a good surgeon but way too busy and no proper follow up. If you want to be ignored, get incorrect information and be treated by a horrible hospital then go to him.

Dr Tewari NEVER came to see me nor talk to me after surgery. All his sweet talk was fake. He acted like he never ever saw me. Like another patient, without asking, he game his cell number as well as email address but NEVER responded to any of my messages. What a shame. Once his surgical number is one higher he just doesn't care about his patients. Also, he is not open minded; he gets VERY offended if you talk to him about any other doctor or do not follow what he says. Rob.

After a long wait his pa comes and gets basic information. Dr. Tewari hardly spends a few minutes with us. When we need to discuss some issues, he feels offended and may give recommendations that are out of context. If we ask him a question he often give instructions to pa rather than responding to us directly. I felt very disappointed with his dealings with patients. He has no time nor skills for listening to patients nor perform a proper exam. JR - Westchester

Ash Tewari is a thoughtful expert in his field. He exudes quiet confidence as he is both highly experienced-national reputation for robotic procedures-and highly personable. This man takes the time to get to know his patients and cares about each of them, Dr Tewari has a large, busy practice. It is well run but the crowds can be daunting outside his office. His staff is excellent. They schedule well, process well, follow up well. Dr. Tewari is surrounded by experienced anesthesiologists and he selects each year the best residents to help him. He is a superb teacher. He is the head of the Mt Sinai Urology Department. He got there by earning the privilege. If you are lucky to get in to see Dr Tewari, you have found the expert with a heart that you are looking for.

When it comes to robotic surgery for prostate cancer the skilled surgeons ( more than 2000 operation done ) in the tri-state area are rather limited , ex. Dr.Samadi and Dr.Tewari. I saw both and was comfortable with either for my surgery , however , due to insurance coverage the choice was limited to tewari so we booked the surgery two months in advance since he was traveling abroad , when he came back I had some questions regarding the operation , I called , left messages on the cell number he gave me (without me asking for it ) , emailed numerous times , no answer from him !!!! except from his secretary, then his office manager and at times his PA ( physician assistant ), when I insisted on talking to him since he is the one to perform the surgery I was asked to talk to a doctor Devoy i believe his name was!! who is doing the surgery then ? I was about to cancel my surgery , at that point tewari came to the phone and in very abrupt way asked :what is the problem?" it all went… down hill from that point , instead of him giving me answers about the complications I was concerned with he asked about my weight ( 180LB ) and proceeded to tell me I need to lose weight by cutting of the bread !!! mind you my surgery was the next week .. did he expect me to lose 20 lb in a week ! and why is this so important now instead of a month ago ! Needless to say I cancelled the surgery and am now booking an appointment with Dr.Samadi even though he is not in network , and if that doe not work then I am going down to Florida ( Dr.Vipul Patel ) .. no patient ( with or without cancer ) should endure such abuse from a person whom you are trusting your life with ..better of with car sales peson

I had gone through radiation for my cancer at Montifiore but because of problems getting there shifted to Dr Tewari. My recent PSA tests showed a small gain. Dr Tewari sent me to another doctor and I went through a battery of tests which were not conclusive. I commute to NYC to get my medical treatments and because I could not see Dr. Tewari right away I sought a second opinion. That opinion was that I was fine. I saw Dr. Tewari who said the inconclusive test results showed my cancer was back and I needed a radical prostatectomy right away. I told him I had gotten a second opinion and he started screaming at me that the other doctor did not have his experience. He then stormed out of my examination yelling if I preferred that Doctor I should stay with him. Because I was worried the new Doctor had me do a biopsy which was negative. It has been two years and my PSA levels are lower then ever. If I had listened to Dr. Tewari I would have had a prostatectomy, which he does for a lot of… money, for nothing which would have made the quality of my life worse. Not only that, as I stated before, when I mentioned a second opinion he behaved unprofessionally. Please avoid him and if you are a patient, Get a Second Opinion.
