Dr. Brian Shannon, MD

I was finally referred to Dr Shannon after years of Dr's trying to help with non surgical options. Dr Shannon got me in pretty quick due to the amount of pain I was in. I was fully expecting a 6 month plus process. I was referred and received surgery within about 6 weeks. He was great. He explained everything and translated the medical terminology in a way that my wife and I could understand at my consultation. He set me up with surgery quickly after so I could get pain relief. He also offered my wife and I to call at anytime prior to surgery with any questions or concerns so that we felt comfortable and there were no worries. The day of surgery ghe again made sure my wife and I were comfortable. After surgery he talked to my wife 1 on 1 and went over everything with her so she could be at ease while waiting to see me. After the surgery the cut was very small just a few inches and very clean. I feel like Dr Shannan gave me back my life and I will be going back to him if I ever need… another procedure like this. He went above and beyond to help not only me but my wife. There needs to be more Dr's like Brian Shannon.

I wrote a review of this Dr. before about his comment that "nothing was wrong with me". Well I am now fully disabled! The proof of his poor treatment and attitude is right here! From a screaming Dr. I was made to feel unimportant, stupid, bothersome, ignored! And I asked my family Dr. to order an MRI, as ANY dr. can order one! And my insurance paid! I guess I was not a "prefered" patient as his comment as to "interfering" with his care for other more important patients..no notoriety since I was not an athlete or maybe not a "big money" case..regardless, I've fought my way through this terrible pain because I dare to ask questions and do research. Don't let a crappy doctor "force" you to never ask about your care. I just recently was nearly taken off pain medication because the urine screen showed Dilaudid and no adderrall..didn't get script..did research as to why this was happening, and had to "school" my dr to what meds I take and that the metabolized product… hydromorphone(dilaudid) is a metabolized product of hydrocodone! If you continue as a patient, I suggest staying ontop of your records..get copies..you will see what your not told! "Functioning" somewhat to "Fully disabled"? What a completely horrible Dr.! Dr Shannon did 3 back surgeries and a neck fusion for me. I highly recommend him. He will have you up sooner than you can believe.Five stars all the way.

I have been going to Dr. Shannon for over 13 years. My husband is also a patient of his. I have had both hips replaced, knee surgery and a spinal fusion. I have always found his staff very supportive, kind, sympathetic, and very prompt in getting back to me on the phone. I don't mind the wait in the waiting room because Dr. Shannon has always spent as much time as I needed answering my many questions and reassuring me. I go in with a list and he goes over everything with me, even drawing pictures to help me understand exactly what he is going to do. I have never found him arrogant, he has been nothing but kind and understanding. He has always left the final decision for surgery up to me and told me I will know when the time is right. I would recommend this surgeon above any other Doctor I have been associated with in my 69 years...because of him, I can walk and exercise without pain and my quality of life is much improved.

Afte over two years with this Dr, I've had enough. He is a Nightmare. First saw him for back pain and was told to go to PT, take this and that, etc..I've done it all. I've been seeing him for neck issues and tendonitis in my arms and I've lost strength in hands with painful arthritis ...this quack of a Dr actually had white foam at the corners of his mouth while berating me with his arrogance. When I asked to try something different and talked about my back being connected to neck and hand issues. He lectured me angrily that how dare I ask him to spend more than 5 minutes.and make him late for his 4 other patients. I was accused of "not being focused" and demanded that I pick one thing...I asked when I had seen on my second visit about getting MRI done, since my back pain has been chronic and is not better but worse, I want to explore other options other than being forced to take meds I don't want to take, and if I don't comply than get lost and find another dr....and he refused… an MRI again today 2 years later with the comment " that sure he would order MRI but I'll have to pay because basically there is not anything wrong with my back" and because he is the " gatekeeper for the insurance co." Ive never in my life seen someone so angry because he was questioned about more than one issue...never going back!!! My advice is to go to another Dr. Because I think this guy is mentally ready to off on any one who dates to ask questions and seems to have forgotten what the hypocatic oath he took means and is more interested in making money!! If I had any doubt before about him, and I did, today telling me nothing was wrong was pretty shocking as well as the hostility I was subjected to, was very clearly my last appointment with this awful Dr again

Dr. Shannon is a jack of all trades ortho doctor. He does knees, hips, backs, etc. He does not give clear answers and is vague with his responses. He is consistently late and makes his patients wait over an hour for scheduled appointments. His staff is unprofessional and rude. His staff over books appointments. My advice is to go to a surgeon who specializes--especially when it comes to your spine. Find a Surgeon that does nothing but spinal surgeries. I think Shannon takes on too patients as well. I regret having him do my surgery. Please seek second opinions from surgeon's in Pittsburgh and Cleveland before going here. He also does not listen to his patients and how they are feeling and what they have to say.

I regret every single day not going to a physician in Pittsburgh for my spinal surgery. My pain never got any better. I still suffer every day.

I agree, he does take arrogance to a whole new level. He makes you feel extremely uncomfortable, he's socially awkward like everything he says to you is scripted. I could have a better conversation with the wall. I've had knee problems since college and he has not at all helped. I wouldn't waste my time with this clown.

While many surgeons have an arrogance about them,Dr. shannon takes arrogant to a new level. He refused to speak to me about multiple back areas in one visit, even though I have multiple problems. He admitted he did not look at the MRI films he only read the report from the radiologists. It took me 5 weeks to get each appointment And I gained nothing. He seems to offer everyone an epidural shot and when I asked about physical therapy he actually said "therapy...you want that sure I will sign you up... It went work but I will sign you up." I wasted 3 months with this joker and now I ha e to find another person who is actually qualified to treat the spine,not just a elbow and knee guy who should work in sports medicine only. AVOID him if you want a real treatment plan.
