Dr. Carolynn Marie Young, MD

I have been a patient of Rockville Gyno for the past several year after my original local Gyno closed offices. I was seen by Dr. Astrid for several years and overall had a good experience. After Astrid left I have seen all of the other Drs and they have all been great. They are kind, professional and caring. I will say the only downside to the practice is the billing person. I have not had a good experience with the billing personal, luckily I was able to resolve directly with my insurance after months of going no where because of bad coding. Other than the billing person all the Drs are wonderful and would highly recommend.

Dr. Young is probably a great surgeon, technique wise , this is her passion, its all she wants to focus on and this is where things can go wrong. She is appears very nice, I have no complaints about her bedside manner per-se. First thing I noticed however under the niceness is she doesn't ask any open ended questions, and doesn't allow you to answer openly. Her questions are very specific and to help document what she needs to justify any procedures, in this case a hysterectomy ( despite me not having kids) So I agree with previous reviews that she knows what she plans to do before talking with you. I did not give much thought at the time. As I said she is enthusiastic about explaining surgery but nothing else, when it comes to logistics her response is " they will get back to you" . They never did, communication in the office is awful. Her staff, and office manager have the worse customer service. If you play along , you have no problems , if you point it out , they will make you the… bad guy. I was suppose to have a procedure and medication before surgery. Medication authorization should have taken 15 minutes ( I literally got a copy of the requirement myself) instead it took a month and me making several calls to get the staff to follow through. They called or faxed to wrong places, didn't follow through when they didn't hear anything from insurance. The office manager is not capable of handling any escalated issues. As has been stated in yelp reviews she lacks customer service , she does not follow up until you get in her ear . I literally had my insurance carrier call me to tell me she hung up the phone on them. I also believe she gives Dr Young false information to cover herself. She and her staff do not respond to messages. When I finally received my injection and procedure , Dr Young apologized but gave a completely different reason than what actually happened and I suspected she wasnt given full truth . After the office manager called me with a confusing phone call a month later, I received a email from Dr Young asking if I wanted to transfer my care. When I looked back at reviews , this seems to be a pattern of theirs' .I initially stated I wanted to stay and get my surgery , but in typical fashion , I did not receive response in a few days. They at least asked me nicely, based on other reviews they just deactivate patients or unregister them without a discussion. Again this was alarming , you need to be able to express discontent without being threatened to be removed from the practice. Competency is shown not when things go according to plan but how you handle the unexpected. I suspect that most of the nice reviews is because of Dr Young's bedside manner and surgery, and the culture down here is to not question things or point out issues but a nice rug doesn't cover the dirt underneath. I decided to just get care elsewhere, I may not even require a hysterotomy .

One size fits all approach to your gynecological issues. It's almost as though when she sees you she is running through a decision tree that is given to her by your health insurance company. Does not promote any natural methods to support feminine healing. Only promotes drugs and surgeries, even when a surgery is contraindicated. Limited Toolset.

I absolutely love her!!! she is the sweetest please go to her for all of your future needs!

Dr. Young is simply fabulous. In addition to being a caring physician, she is an excellent surgeon. I did not go to a gynecologist for 15 years because my experiences in the past had not been good but I finally went to Dr. Young. It turned out that I needed surgery for a large cyst, and she took it out in a laporoscopic procedure. While no surgery is fun, I am so glad I had Dr. Young! I can't imagine going through this with anyone else. Dr. Young did not suggest unnecessary surgery, and I felt confident with her at every step. I cannot recommend her too highly.

Not normal but weird Dr.. Be alert!

I was referred to dr. Young from 3 clients of mine. I own a salon. I love this Dr! I found her compassionate and very willing to help me and my situation. I was given options and went with the least aggressive method. If this doesn't help then I know my option and can plan. I found her staff extremely helpful and sweet all the time. I Even called once 3 times in a row and never felt like I was annoying Sara. It's unfortunate some of the reviews. I have already r easy 're gr8 erred other people and highly recommend dr. Young and trust her with my life!!

Seriously you can get better surgeon then her. Someone who return calls and follows up with you after surgery. I DO NOT RECOMMEND DR. YOUNG. She did not spend enough time with me after surgery to explain the outcome and she didn't show any care about my concerns or try to address them. For you better get another surgeon.

Dr. Young made it seem that the only cure for my fibroids was a hysterectomy. She did not give me all the other options when I asked her if there were any. Essentially she conned me into an unnecessary hysterectomy. When I became very unhappy that I had had this surgery and asked her to more fully explain why I had been rushed into this hysterectomy she and her nurse Cynthia became ruder and ruder to me and eventually Young sent me a registered letter saying she could no longer be my doctor! In addition, Dr. Young also gave me an abdominal hernia because of the surgery I had with her that she failed to diagnose for over a year despite the fact that I kept telling her that I had pains in that area.It was a curse that I had fibroids but it was even worse luck that I trusted Dr. Young.

Dr. Young is an EXCELLENT doctor. She takes time to explain what she is going to do, why she needs to do it, then your options for the future. Very gentle and patient. Best ob/gyn I've had so far (out of 3 in my lifetime). Definitely would recommend for those who are apprehensive about visiting the gynecologist's office.
