Dr. Christi A. Stewart, MD

Dr. Stewart came to our home to care for my Mom with her nurse practitioner. Both saw how large my Moms legs were getting and when she told them she had trouble walking they gave her cortisone injections. After a few visits and telling my Mom her heart was fine, they determined she no longer needed home care even though my Mom couldn't walk and I couldn't get her to the car to take her elsewhere. She gave her blood pressure medicine which made her legs drip liquid that was so large she was soaking towels. The doctor came back and said it was a cut. My Mom has been in the cardiac unit for almost a week on IV diuretics and had a heart cath which said she had heart failure. We trusted Dr. Stewart and her staff and they never suggested my Mom could have a heart problem or tell us to hospitalize her for care. In my opinion it's negligence on the part of the professionals to even recognize the possibility that the fluid in her legs and ankles was an indication of a heart problem. Now my Mom… is in the care of The Heart Group of Lancaster General Health and will be back with her original doctor, Dr. William Bakken who will take much better care of her. I was told to call them because they made house calls but it may have cost my Mom undue damage that may not be able to be fixed.

My mother and I went to see Dr. Stewart years ago when I was the sole caregiver for my mother. Mom had been diagnosed with dementia months beforehand. I was impressed with Dr, Stewart right up until the time she called 38 days after the initial visit to inform me that she was going to have my mother removed from my care and placed in a nursing home. The reason for the call was due to a caseworker from Lancaster County Office of Aging (lynn mccabe) making allegations that were not false but outright lies. Dr. Stewart did no investigation into the matter; nor did she ask me as to why allegations were being made. As far as she was concerned, caseworkers' allegations are never to be questioned. Dr. Stewart took the stand before judge hoberg and made comments in complete contrast to what she told me during the office visit. Thanks to Dr. Stewart, my mother was placed in a nursing home that was eventually closed by the state. These events occurred in 2007. They still haunt me. I… will neither forget nor forgive what this doctor did to my mother. She might know geriatrics but she knew nothing about the loving relationship a mother and son shared.
