Dr. Conor Dean Spady, MD

Dr. Spady is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic trauma surgeon, meaning that he is trained to take care of the most complex fractures as well as those fractures which sometimes do not heal or can heal incorrectly. All orthopaedic injuries can be challenging, but the hardest fractures to treat surgically are often those involving the pelvis and acetabulum, as well as those near joints (peri-articular fractures). Conor likes these challenges and especially likes helping people recover from them. Conor did his orthopaedic surgery residency at Loma Linda University Health, where he trained under many premier surgeons. He also became inspired by some surgeons who donated their time and talents to helping underserved patients both locally and globally. One of Conor’s best mentors decided to work full-time in a busy hospital in Haiti and Conor felt impressed to spend a year joining him. After residency, Conor spent a year working as an orthopaedic surgeon in Haiti, a challenging yet deeply …rewarding experience that enriched him both personally and professionally. Conor knew early on that he wanted to specialize in trauma surgery fixing complex fractures. Thus, after the year in Haiti, he completed a fellowship at the Orthopaedic Trauma Institute at University of California, San Francisco. Conor was born in California but grew up most of his childhood in Indiana. When considering where he wanted to live and grow roots with his family after training, he was hoping for somewhere with close access to mountains and the outdoor activities he loves. He also wanted a place that has more of the small-town community similar to where he grew up in the mid-west, so Northern Colorado was the perfect place. When not working, Conor loves spending time with his wife and dog and in particular loves outdoor activities that they can all do together. These adventures usually involve off-roading to remote camping sites, hiking, and backpacking. Conor also loves trail-running, skiing, riding and working on Vespa scooters. He also loves baking bread, making pizza, and taking care of his chickens. A Personal Note from Conor: When I meet my patients, it’s under unfortunate circumstance. Let’s face it, orthopaedic injuries are painful and result in time away from work and the activities we love. However, being there with my patients as they heal and get back to their lives and doing what I can to help is what makes my job so incredibly rewarding. One very important thing to keep in mind though: even when we do a surgery, the surgical team and I can only put things back together so that they heal in the right way, but we don’t do the healing. You do. Whether you believe in God or anything else, your body does the healing with time. It’s a team sport when you come to OCR, and there are a lot of important players, but the most important is you. Nothing makes us happier at OCR than getting the chance to help you get back to doing the things you love.
