Dr. Daniel Nagasawa, MD

Dr. Nagasawa has a an excellent reputation. This negative review has nothing to do with his surgical skill or medical knowledge. It is about the unacceptably poor treatment of a new patient in his office. I was referred to him for evaluation of spinal stenosis with increased weakness and numbness in my lower legs and feet. I called the office a week before my scheduled appointment and asked whether I should get an MRI before I see him. His staff told me not to. When I arrived for my appointment, the receptionist looked at her computer screen and said she couldn’t find an appointment for me with Dr. Nagasawa. She added that he was in surgery. Then a nurse came forward and said that I’d been rescheduled earlier to see another doctor. I told her I knew nothing about that. She pointed to the revised schedule and said “It’s written right here.” The fact is I would have understood if I had just been told ahead of time that he needed to reschedule because of a patient priority. I might… even have considered seeing the other doctor, if I’d been given the time to read about him online and see how qualified he was. Instead, I felt very disrespected and just wanted to leave. Perhaps Dr. Nagasawa did actually ask someone on his staff to notify me of the change. If it were an office error that led to this negligence, I hope Dr. Nagasawa does whatever he needs to do to protect his patients and his practice from such unfortunate occurrences in the future.

Dr Nagasawa's care, communication and interactions with me were all top-notch and impressive. I had sciatic pain in my leg and back for many months and was going to PT. I was referred to Dr Nagasawa from my PCP once they discovered a mass/cyst in my spine. I was able to schedule my first visit within 3 days of my MRI with excellent attention to detail from his front office staff concerning my pain and need for immediate surgery. From my first meeting with Dr Nagasawa and including all of the follow up appointments, he listened carefully to my questions and answered all of them with care, professionalism and kindness. He takes all the time that is needed to provide high quality care. He understood my hesitations, fear, pain, and needs. He also was very caring and understanding with my recovery and especially in the hospital. My fusion surgery had some unknowns given the need to remove the mass/cyst and then fuse the spine; it was scheduled for 2 hours and lasted 5 and 1/2 hours. Dr… Nagasawa is an excellent surgeon, and I could not have been in better hands. His back-office staff (physician's assistant (PA) and scheduler) were also highly supportive, helpful, attentive and continued to keep me informed of all the details needed pre- and post-surgery. His PA knowing the importance of finding out the test results on my pathology of the mass/cyst was very attentive to finding out the test results and communicating them to me ASAP; I am/was highly appreciative for this type of concern and care. I now have no pain (!!) and am recovering very well and am extremely grateful to Dr Nagasawa and his team for all they did to get me back to living a life without pain and enjoying all of my activities. He is excellent and I would highly recommend him.

It has been nearly six years since Dr. Nagasawa cared for me, and I could never forget him. He was kind, patient, and attentive to me; further, when my physician brother called me and had questions, Dr. Nagasawa "talked doctor" to him and gave answers. Last year, a friend of mine from high school sustained a C-1 fracture, and when I contacted Dr. N, he made sure that my friend got the best care. I will always be grateful.

I highly recommend Dr. Nagasawa. He was very thorough and spent the time with me to really understand my condition and my options. His recommendations allowed me to go with a more minimally invasive procedure which has been a great success.

Two years after my spine surgery I Report a perfect recovery and return to a full and active lifestyle at age 76. In addition to his skills as a surgeon the caring and confidence building conversations I had with Dr N the night before, the morning of and the several days after the surgery I know also played a big part in my amazing recovery. He is committed to total physical and emotional support of his patients. He is a very special talent and gift to the field of neurology in so many ways.

Dr. Nagasawa performed back surgery on me. I was in terrible pain before the surgery, but afterwards I had no pain what so ever. He is an excellent surgeon. He also has a great bedside manner and shows his patients that he cares. I would recommend him to any other patient.

CONDUCTED SURGERY ON ME IT WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL FROM BEGINNING I WAS EVELATED THEORY BLOOD WORK HISTORY, HIS TEAM FROM DRUG INDOSE MEDICATION WAS EXELLENT, MY SURGERY WAS A DIFFICULT ONE BUT HE WAS STEAD FAST AND PRECISE, AFTER SURGERY I HAD SOME DIFFICULTY WITH MY BLOOD, I READY WANT TO LEAVE BUT HE WAS PERSISTENT, SO I SO I WHEN THE DISTANCE AND GRATEFUL FOR HIS CARING WAYS. I am a patient of Dr. Nagasawa and am very satisfied with the care and professionalism he has showed me. He listens and addresses my concern in a timely manner, and makes me feel comfortable with any question I need to ask. He was always patient with me asking questions no matter what they were. I believe he will be a great asset to you and he will be greatly missed.

I am retired military and had neck surgery at WLA Veterans Hospital performed by Dr. Nagasawa. He did an outstanding job performing his work. I am now in full recovery and back to normal and working as a postal custodian in perfect condition. He did a good job and I will recommend him to my fellow veterans.
