I carry the best Medicare and supplemental coverage available through aarp United healthcare. I recently went for my normal yearly wellness exam. This has been covered by my same insurance every year. Last year I had the exam and my insurance paid all of the yearly wellness exam. This year I went in as usual and subsequently received a surprise invoice for $194.51. I am now told it was billed as a senior preventive evaluation because the doctor did not want to fill out 4 or 5 pages of forms. I was told I got a letter when I checked in but no one explained and I certainly do not know what terms have been now used to disallow the charge from being paid. For a change of $194.51 I think someone should have made this clear. I would have found another doctor to perform the exam. There is not much wrong and this is pretty routine. I think it’s bush league to not have made this clearer. And even the excuse that some administrative asst does not have time to aid the doctor to complete… the form is indicative of his rude staff who generally only serve themselves. They do not seem to care to serve patients but Schatz has not figured that out and generally a patient has not got time to complain. No good explanation to me for the above charge is just a symptom of a staff and doctor who just have not done a good job of communicating. And even when I call with the question, I am told I did not have to Sign showing the change but that I was given a letter at front check in desk (not the doctor) and then quickly they want to shuffle me off to a financial office who obviously only gets charges given to them by the doctors office. This is very unprofessional! I am a cpa; retired EVP of major FORTUNE 500 corp. Not bragging but I am not stupid! It’s not money but the unprofessional process that stinks. Perhaps I will have to change doctors, I only see a doctor about once per year and this is result.

Dr. Schatz is the best internist I've had in many years. Very professional. Never makes you feel rushed. Asks appropriate questions. Demonstrates deep medical knowledge. A breath of fresh air. Highly recommended.

This was my initial visit to Dr. Schatz for a routine physical exam and referral to a dermatologist and hand surgeon. I was taken on time and treated with respect. He was easy to talk to and we discussed alternatives as one professional to another, although I'm not a doc. My blood pressure ended up too high, and he has me coming back in a week after doubling the dose of the BP medicine I'm taking. I'm looking forward to a long patient-doctor relationship with him.
