Dr. David W. Manning, MD

It has been a little over 5 years since I had both hips replaced by Dr. Manning (8 months apart) and I couldn't be happier. As a surgeon myself, I had suffered for years in the operating room. The pain was miraculously gone shortly after surgery and I was back to work full-time in about 2 weeks. Since then, I have referred two good friends and two relatives to Dr. Manning for joint replacement, and all four have enjoyed similarly excellent results.

I’m 80. Had L. knee replacement in 2015, R. Knee in ‘17, and L. hip ‘19. I’m totally relieved,healed and pleased. Surgical outcomes depend on the skill of the surgeon; Dr M ‘s skill made me mobile and 100% pain free once again. In addition, I’m impressed by his office’s pre-surgery prep instructions (exercises, infection prevention, home tips,etc) and post-surgery follow thru ( instructions, healing timelines explained, pain management was excellent, set up at home PT, etc).

I would give zero stars if possible. I had a knee replacement 3 1/2 years ago and have had knee pain for 3 of those years. Sought his help as the surgeon who did the procedure has since left. He only made one suggestion, an injection, which added hip pain to my knee pain. It took him three months after that to tell me he couldn't help me.

Not only is Dr M skilled in the procedures; he and the staff have also set up a pre-surgery protocol to optimize the patient regarding infection prevention and physical exercises, which worked very well for me; additionally he and his staff developed a thorough post-surgery plan to manage discomfort, prevent blood clots and infection, as well as visiting nurse visits and physical therapy. Im a 75 year old male who’s been brought back to a very decent quality of life thanks to Dr Manning, Susan Tafini (Advance Practice Nurse) and the rest of the staff, whose names I dont have. I went to Dr. Manning for a knee issue. After waiting 1. 5 hours for my consult appointment, he was dismissive, disinterested and had an offensive bedside manner. Did not examine my knee at all. Showed no interest in my case, nor offered any help when asked. Don't bother to go to this practice unless you want to waste your time and copays.....

This was my first, last, and the only appointment with Dr. Manning. The reason for my visit was to discuss and schedule a total hip joint replacement revision, as the previous surgeon, Dr. Wixson(limp for your life from him)had used the wrong prosthesis and put it in at the wrong angle, consequently, I sustained displacement of the hip, specifically the femur came out of the socket and lodged behind my pelvis, and yes, this hurts as bad as it sounds. Upon entering the examination room he was initially rude and it went downhill from there. Yes, he agreed that it was the incorrect prosthesis and the wrong angle he then said I was too thin for the surgery, I told him that I am as thin for a woman as he is for a man, then he told me I did not have enough muscle and I was weak, I got down on the floor and did ten military push-ups and ten reverse push-ups, then he said that I did not have enough protein in my diet and wanted to do an albumin test. I am a ballet teacher and former dancer, I… have a diet that is rich in protein, healthy fats and oils, and mass quantities of dark leafy greens. I went to have the blood test and aced it with flying colors, an appointment for surgery was scheduled. One week before the surgical date a whole host of drugs arrived; painkillers, coumadin, Hybercleanse($35 a bottle), laxative suppositories, etc. When I phoned three days later to confirm the surgery I was informed by his nurse who was as rude if not more so than Manning, that it was cancelled. No explanation was given, when I asked for the results of the protein tests the nurse said that they never received them and I never had the test, I pressed her on the issue and she said "oh ya..results are fine", I asked to speak with the doctor and she said that that was not possible. I requested the results of the blood test to be mailed to me. I received them two weeks later, the paper was jammed into the envelope, she did not include a return address, and my address was sloppily scrawled and my last name was misspelled. I cannot say enough negative things about this experience without either tears or intense anger.

Dr. Manning did a right hip replacement that was a complete failure. He did not believe me that hip kept coming out. Subsequently I needed to find another orthopedic surgeon. The new surgeon did an appropriate test and said my hip needed to be redone. My hip was redone and fixed.
