Dr. David Louis Westra, MD

Dr. Westra is an extremely competent surgeon, who does an excellent job of explaining to the patient exactly what the situation is. However, his office staff, particularly his receptionist, leave quite a bit to be desired. Rude to the point of belligerent and QUITE obviously uncaring of the patient. I wait weeks for an appointment and 30 minutes before the appointment I get a call asking if I can be there in 10 minutes. Next, as I say I am on the way, she begins to interrogate me regarding background info that I am bringing to the appointment. I told her, AGAIN, that I was driving (to the appointment) and hung up.

I've been waiting over 2 months to see Dr. Westra. The office staff has cancelled my appointment three times and moved each appointment out for weeks. On the day of my 3rd appointment, I received a VM telling me that my appointment that was scheduled at 3:30 had been changed to 12:30. Its ridiculous that I have bumped 3 times and to think that I can reschedule my day and come in 3 hours earlier with just a few hours notice. I manage well over 100 employees and I would never treat a customer/patient with such little care or concern. This is by far the worst customer care I have ever received. They have no consideration for the pain and suffering that I am in. If its happening to me, I can promise that it is happen to other patients as well. Communication is extremely important. If you are over booked and cant see a patient in a timely manor than let them know and give them a referral to a DR. that can!!

If I were to draw a parallel between Dr. Westar's skill as a surgeon and the music industry I would say he rates a Jimmy Hendrix or better.

I am a recently retired nurse of 35 years and, during my entire nursing profession, I had heard MANY failed back surgery stories; from patients, family and friends. Dr Westra has done surgery on my neck AND my lover back. The moment I met him, I knew he was the right one. After both surgeries, I was up on my feet, walking the next morning by 7am! It’s been 5 years and I had a very challenging case; my surgery taking just over 9 hours. I consider him to be gifted. His staff is exceptional ALWAYS

Friendly staff. Felt Dr Westra addressed the problem and the remedy in a very professional manner

His surgery restored my ability to walk. I was nearly paralyzed before Dr Westra operated on me.. I had been in total agony for years before the surgery, but I woke-up after it totally pain free. As I am today, almost 2 years later. 5 stars is simply not enough to rate Dr Westra,

I was referred to any doctor in this office and Dr. Westra was the first one available and I am very happy with him. He is very thorough and takes the time to ask the right questions and give you the options that are available to you. The good thing is that they don't recommend surgery unless it's your only or best option! They try all other options first.

Dr. Westra is an excellent surgeon. Caring and knowledgeable. Back pain is all gone. Good care at CMH as well.

Dr was very informative about my condition.he gave a complete explanation of my condition and what procedures would be necessary to repair my neck .. I havent made a final decision yet .. However Dr Westra was very impressive
