Dr. Andrew James Tompkins, MD

I was referred to Doctor Tompkins by my Obgyn after spotting some abnormalities in my bladder during a cystology in my uterus. I found Dr. Tompkins to be very thorough, kind and compassionate. Truly a top notch doctor and just as important- a top notch person. Thankfully my results with him were all negative. But had I been faced with fighting cancer, he would be the doctor I would want in my corner. Great communication and follow up. He even texted me on a Saturday morning to let me know all my results were normal! I’ve never had that before. Would highly recommend.

I am a new patient of Dr. Tompkins. A close friend of mine referred me and promised that I would be impressed with the quality of care and sincere "love and respect for his patient". I felt that he thoroughly examined and tested possible causes for my symptoms. He communicated the results to me slowly, clearly and respectfully. He offered me a couple of approaches to solve the problem, then listened very carefully to my thoughts as well. Both he and his assistant: Lovingly Superb!!

I was treated with the utmost respect and dignity certainly by Dr. Tompkins, and by every staff person employed in his office; from Kim the receptionist, to the Nurses to Brad H, P.A. This is the place to go when you have need for treatment to the most sensitive areas of your body! Their politeness, kindness and sense of humor will put you at ease, and their genuine concern will render you confident that they are a competent team. Oh, and I did not get any money for writing this review!

I feel so very lucky to have found Dr Tompkins who was referred by my OBGYN. Besides being and expert and on the top of his game, he is an extraordinary physician. He's the kind of doc that we wish all doctors could be; caring, compassionate, thorough and just an overall great human being. And, the bonus is free hugs! Love this man. He's the best!

As a physician myself, I can fully appreciate the great care I recently received from Dr. Tompkins. He is a caring, compassionate and highly skilled physician with a wonderful personality. His intellect, clinical judgement, and technical skills in urology got me through a very difficult time. I was suffering from an obstructing kidney stone in my ureter, which he skillfully removed with ureteroscopy. I am now stone-free and will remain under Dr. Tompkins' care going forward.

I was referred to Dr. Thompkins by my former urologist, who was retiring. I was apprehensive about starting over with a new urologist but that apprehension quickly disappeared during my first appointment with Dr.Tompkins. He is a kind and compassionate man. He asks questions and then really listens to your answers and concerns. He makes a patient feel very comfortable talking about some very uncomfortable health conditions, and that is invaluable to me. I was not surprised to see that Dr. Thompkins was recognized as one of RI Top Docs.

My dad is the kind of guy that really doesn't really trust doctors, he avoids it at all cost. So when he needed to see a urologist I was afraid he would bolt from the office at any moment given the chance. My dad is a "rough around the edges" salty ole dog so I was also worried his mannerisms would not be received well by the physician and staff....maybe giving my dad a reason to storm out. Upon meeting Andrew my dad felt at ease, Dr. Tompkins was able to take my grumpy dad and see that he was scared, he spoke to my dad with respect and at his level of understanding, he took great time with him explaining options. He has a great bedside manner which was what I needed to keep my dad from getting upset or angry and refusing treatment...which was important because he really needed treatment. I feel its important to also include that in addition to a fantastic bed side manner, after winning my dad over, my dad trusted him to make the appropriate referrals, submit to diagnostic testing,… and take his prescribed medications which successfully treated my dads cancer. I wouldn't be able to say that if my dad walked out of that office on the first visit and refused treatment as we were worried he might do. My pops may be a salty ole dog, but he's our salty ole dog and were glad to have him around.

Down to earth, easy to talk to, refreshingly regular person!
