Dr. Daniel Phelan took care of our dad who is 88 years old. Dr. Phelan took his time, was extremely kind, very thorough, amazing bedside manner. We would absolutely recommend Dr. Phelan to anyone who needs medical care!

My experience with Dr. Phelan was EXCELLENT. I saw Dr. Phelan for a second opinion for a shoulder injury. He was extremely kind , caring and took the time to explain to me what exactly was going on with my shoulder. He the suggested my options for correcting the problem . HE TRUELY CARES ABOUT HIS PATIENTS . Forget about all the negative nonsense people write on here . This guy is CARING and HONEST , qualities hard to find in doctors today.

What a jerk, he should not be a doctor at all. He should just be able to heal with touch since he thinks he is GOD.

As others have indicated, poor bedside mannner, accused patient of drug-seeking behavior, accused patient of lying, unable to see patient as a person. Contemptuous and arrogant.

Great Dr, He fixed my shoulder and I have had no problems with it 2.5 years later. I am actually going back to him for a knee injury.

One shoulder surgery and two knee arthroscopies went very well. If you don't listen well I find that he is extremely fast with what he has to say. Be prepared with written questions if you have to but make sure that they are related to your problem. Staff is very pleasant. My main complaint is the waiting time. Even if you arrive early you will still have to wait...usually more than 30-45 minutes. If someone would only let you know that the dr. is running late and how much longer it will be,it would really help. I was nearly 45 minutes late to work after my over 1 hr wait to see him at my last visit!!! Time management should be part of any quality practice.

Over a year ago Dr. Phelan diagnosed me with needing surgery on my shoulder. After Dr. Phelan prescribed me a non-narcotic pain reliever, I received a second opinion in which I was told I did not need surgery on my shoulder but my laberal needed attention. Recently, I have been back to Dr. Phelan for a second opinion from a car accident for a knee injury, and his diagnosis was inaccurate. He then proceeded to tell me I had a drug problem, needed to seek help and I had drug seeking behavior. There was no conversation from my end on my visit about any kind of pain management/relievers. After that, he told me I was no longer welcome at his practice and to seek help (for a problem I do not have). I highly suggest for patients who have a painful injury to see another orthopedic surgeon if they would like accurate results from a caring doctor. He was of no help, very rude and inconsiderate of my situation.

During my first appointment with Dr. Phelan, I found him to be rather detached and abrupt. However, I was impressed with his background, and was more concerned with his ability to treat my problem than I was with his bedside manner. But his treatment of my shoulder injury, a cortisone injection, did not alleviate my pain, which continued to worsen in the days after our visit. My physical therapist felt certain his diagnosis was wrong. I returned to Dr. Phelan and explained that my physical therapist suggested a different diagnosis. He laughed mockingly, stating, "That's ridiculous." I then complained about my almost unbearable pain, to which he responded, "I don't prescribe narcotics." Apparently he'd decided that I returned because I was trolling for painkillers. Shortly after that, I went to another orthopedist in a different Albany practice. After a thorough examination and a few tests, this second orthopedist confirmed my physical therapist's diagnosis. He directed me in the… correct treatment of my injury. He clearly understood that I was in terrible pain, and administered the necessary medication to ease my pain until my injury healed. He treated me just as one would expect of a good physician--with respect, understanding, and compassion, all qualities that, in my opinion, are unfamiliar to Dr. Phelan.
