My experience with OrthoSC has been outstanding! So, when I was experiencing severe leg and back pain, I contacted OrthoSC surgeon, Dr. Gene Massey. He reviewed X-rays and found my pain was from a worsening adjacent segment degeneration and spondylolisthesis at L2 and L3. Dr. Massey and I discussed the diagnosis, and he recommended fusion back surgery at L2-3 was the better option to relieve my pain. Dr. Massey and the surgical team performed the surgery on June 25, 2025. The surgery was successful. Dr. Massey is very professional and an outstanding surgeon. Based on my experiences with Dr. Massey, I highly recommend him. Additionally, his office staff, the team he assembled for my surgery, and Grand Strand Medical Center Care team were phenomenal. Currently, there is no back or leg pain, and activities that were previously limited before the surgery can now be performed. If I am in need for another back surgery, I will contact Dr. Massey.

I just completed my one year post surgery Lumbar Spine Fusion follow up with fantastic results thanks to Dr, Massey. I have “no” pain and have not experienced any physical limitations. My mobility has not been restricted as I have continued the exercises given at physical therapy. In May 2025 I had a lumber fusion by Dr Massey and it’s been wonderful. His assistant Jon took care of all preop scheduling and made sure it went smoothly. Then surgery with Dr Moore and Dr Massey was a breeze for me with no pain post op from the time I woke from anesthesia! And I just returned from two weeks hiking in Alaska with no pain 3 1/2 months after surgery. The best thing I ever did was to see Dr Massey about my back pain.

Dr Massey is the best. I had a lumbar fusion 6 weeks ago and have had no pain at all since waking after surgery. No pain pills needed and walking an hour daily. After suffering severe lower back pain for several months and trying different options (Physical Therapy, Chiropractor, etc.) to relieve the pain with no results I went to see Dr Massey. He diagnosed my problem and explained that I needed surgery ( A Laminectomy) on my lower back. Dr Massey's staff handled making all appointments needed for testing, surgery and follow up care. Shout out to his assistant John. Since the surgery I have been able to resume a normal life. No more crippling pain and no need to use a cane anymore. I am able to get more than an hours sleep at night. I had my final follow up on Dec 3rd and I am feeling fantastic. Would greatly recommend Dr Massey and his team.
