I couldn’t walk without stumbling over my own feet. I couldn’t lift my feet off the ground, I was dragging my left foot along and walking with jerky movements. Such was the severity of interference from issues of the spine. The numbness was driving me crazy. This all started after an accident trying to get off an MTA bus back in February. The issue progressed within months to the point that I couldn’t feel anything in my left arm and hand. The pain was excruciating and debilitating. Dr. Imani was recommended to me by my PCP. When I attended the consult he immediately pointed out what the issue was and was very confident that the particular issue was responsible for both the numbness and problems I was experiencing with walking. I was surprised to learn this. I thought the walking problem was because of my lower back and the numbness was coming from the cervical spine. I realized then that he knew what he was talking about. Another consult with someone else offered the same explanation and recommendation. It has only been two weeks since I had the surgery but I can lift my feet now when I walk without the fear of stumbling. I am anticipating a full recovery and am thankful to Dr. Imani and his expertise. His staff were very professional, courageous, and accommodating. My visit with Dr. Imani was insightful. I have had previous surgeries and recently I developed some issues. I was told I need back surgery and was referred to another doctor by pain management. However, after I did some research on Dr. Imani who is among the list of doctors I was referred to by my PCP, I decided to consult him. The staff was awesome and very accommodating. OUTSTANDING, UNMATCHED, KIND, SURGEON WITH AUTHENTIC AND IMPECCABLE BEDSIDE MANNER!!! My battle with sciatica began after an intoxicated driver hit me when I was 17 years old as a passenger. Since that point, there have been many ups and downs; other injuries, and life; yet, often times, not experiencing much pain for some years. I never had fear of any surgery, in fact, I welcome it, yet there is some stigma that certainly comes along with spinal surgery, which is predominantly why I tried my very best to avoid it. I no longer could when I realized I was in agony on a daily basis, and the pain was beyond debilitating and only getting worse- worse to the point I couldn’t sit on an airplane or bend down to give my dogs water. Simple morning tasks like making coffee were physically draining to the point I considered it a life’s decision (coffee or no coffee) based on what I knew the task would feel like and how I knew the aftermath would knock me out for some hours. I couldn’t work or… function at the age of 30. My neurologist suggested I find an orthopedic surgeon I feel comfortable with. I suggested and feel neurosurgeons are much more intricate. I decided to go with neurosurgery. After meeting a handful of surgeons who didn’t give me the light of day, I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Yusef Imani, who I knew instantaneously was the right choice! He was not cocky in the least, in fact; he was utterly confident, and was patient in explaining my condition further, as well as surgical methodologies. I could tell he was passionate about his work, calm, and skilled. My situation turned out fairly emergent and unanticipated in the beginning of November 22’, the results were incredible. I’d felt new sensations as well as awoken sensations I hadn’t felt in many years. I woke up with a microscopic amount of pain if any and walked several steps just a few hours after surgery. Let’s just say the most tedious and painful part of the entire process was having to call a good friend to remove a small strip of surgical glue over the worlds most perfect incision. Dr. Imani is an absolute hero in my eyes. I would have him operate on me any day of the week if the benefit outweighed the risk. As a former, veteran equestrian show jumper, and barrel racer, I got the go ahead to start riding again. It is only three months post, and I’m encouraged to cycle and begin exercising, which my body and mind have been so deprived of, since the exacerbation of my prior injuries. In closing, Dr. Imani gave me my life back. He gave me my freedom. I recommend him wholeheartedly, to anyone dealing with an issue where there’s a chance surgery can relieve the problem, and I am forever grateful for his intense and delicate work! All the best, HC
