Dr. Chang is a very caring physician. He listens well and clearly explains options, risks, and benefits.

Before I had my MVD surgery for Left Hemifacial spasm, I was unable to sleep at night due to spasms, it affected my driving, eating, smiling and 90% intermittent. I had this afflicted condition for almost 5 years and I wish I had this surgery sooner. Ever since meeting Dr. Chang, he has been a very accommodating, brilliant, passionate, humble, gentle, and a meticulous surgeon. I think he is a very empathic person with great skills that I have full confidence in, he has answered every question and concerns I had. It wasn't only Dr. Chang that has been amazing but the UCSF staff has also been very caring and compassionate to each and every patient including myself. Before the surgery Dr. Chang has explained to me that it will take time for the nerves to heal, and some people do not wake up spasm free after surgery. I can say that I did not wake up spasm free, but the spasms have been reduced significantly. It has greatly improved my life, I can sleep, smile at the camera, enjoy my life… with my family, and have my self-confidence back. For that I have been very hopeful that I will be spasm free one day. I would like to say thank you to Dr. Chang and his team, and that I am so full of happiness and gratitude and I would absolutely recommend him and his team to anyone with Hemifacial spasm that's considering MVD surgery. I pray that he would continue with his healing hands that he would continue to help and save peoples lives.????

Dr. Edward F. Chang recently performed microvascular decompression neurosurgery on my right side, ending 15 years of recurrent and severe pain involving the upper two branches of my trigeminal nerves. The treatment was liberating, as I no longer have to fear cold, windy, rainy days, eating crunchy food, touching my forehead or nose and other triggers that often caused immense pain. The complete elimination of pain, and no longer having to take medication, has resulted in an extraordinary improvement in the quality of my life! The experience with surgery was pleasant. Dr. Chang and his team were warm, friendly and worked seamlessly together, communicating with me at all stages of care including before, during and after surgery. There was very little postoperative discomfort, and I was discharged after only two nights in the hospital, never needing even Tylenol for the surgical incision after I returned home. There was just the minor temporary neck stiffness I was told may occur. The… surgical site was easy to care for and the healing was uneventful. For anyone suffering from trigeminal neuralgia, I highly recommend seeking care and treatment from Dr. Edward F. Chang and his highly skilled team. I am a very grateful and happy patient! Leon H. Dr. Chang is very excellent in every aspect of my brain surgery. Very informative on what he was going to do. He did surgery on me for my sezuires and gave me a chance to rebuild my life without sezuires and was great to me throughout the whole stay at UCSF from the beginning to the end of my stay! He even checked in on me after surgery to see how things were going and gave me suggestions to help with my healing and recovery! I recommend him to anyone that is needing brain surgery!!! I am so glad to have the chance to meet him and opportunity to have had surgery by him!!!!

I was so lucky to have Dr. Chang perform my recent HFS surgery. This was #2 for me - the first was over 20 years ago with another surgeon. Dr. Chang and his team were thorough and communicative during the entire process. Twitch and squeezing is gone and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome and quick recovery!

Dr Chang is a thoughtful and empathetic physician who listens well, always provides very helpful information and answers questions in an understandable way. I feel completely comfortable in his care. He works with a very experienced and knowledgeable PA who is very caring and available.

Dr. Change and his supporting team of doctors and nurses are simply fantastic. He operated on me to remove MRI identified Focal Cortical Dysplasia and a Low Grade Tumor in my right temporal lobe which has been causing drug resistant seizures over the last several years. The surgery and experience went smoothly from introduction and explanation of the procedure by Dr. Chang through the 5 hour operation, recovery in the hospital and 6+ weeks afterwards. Both he and his staff were available at all times to help me during this difficult process for preparation and recovery. Choosing UCSF and Dr. Chang was one of the best decisions I will have ever made. He was kind, patient, and explained everything clearly to a very detailed level which I appreciated. I have not had any seizures or auras since the surgery and am hopeful that this chapter of my life is over. I cannot be more grateful to Dr. Chang and UCSF for changing my life forever.

Dr Edward Chang was the best find. He was actually my second opinion since my first round of doctors just gave us the run around and kept prescribing medications / botox for my facial spasms. Meanwhile, my spasms was getting worse as time went on. First it started off with my eyelid twitching, then the bottom of my eyelid pulsating, then cheek and I felt some tingling as far as my lip area. My eye also became droopy. My condition made it difficult for me and affected my day-to-day activities. When I met Dr Edward Chang and after review of my charts, he knew right away and explained what my condition was and how to correct it in detail. He made us feel very comfortable and answered all our questions. He made sure we understood the issue (Hemifacial spasms caused by the trigeminal nerve) and the procedure that is being recommended which was a microvascular decompression. He explained the risk involved and what to expect as the end result. We felt we were in good hands. I have been… dealing with this issue for about 4 years now. My wife did an excellent job in doing some online research on Dr Edward Chang and was pleased to see all the credentials, accolades as well as his accomplishments. We are truly grateful that we found Dr Edward Chang, Mariann, and his team. All were great to work with and we felt very comfortable in their care. I am happy to report that my issues have been corrected and the result is unremarkable. What a big difference he has made for me! We highly recommend Dr Edward Chang.
