Dr. Edwin Philip Su, MD

Dr. Su is a good surgeon, but the follow up care is poor. The Hospital for Special Surgery has no emergency room, so if you bleed out the night after you are discharged, you are on your own. The office doesn't remind you to check metal levels. You have to remember to ask for prescriptions yourself. If you have an issue a year or two out and live far away, the doctor can not be reached by phone. A physicians assistant who is not very knowledgeable may or may not return your call.

It has been nearly three years since Dr. Su performed a hip resurfacing for me. I was climbing stairs the same day. I lead a happy, active and pain-free life thanks to Dr. Su after previous years of chronic hip and leg pain and developing a limp. Dr. Su takes great interest in his patients, explains everything, has an amazing team at HHS and is the best. The cartilage was gone in one of my hips and he introduced me to hip resurfacing as a more advanced alternative to Total Hip Replacement. I have recovered rapidly, have no movement restrictions and it's like I never had a hip problem. Wonderful.

I am feeling 100% after surgery with Dr.Su. I am more than grateful for his care and expertise and kindness. Dr. Su is an incredible surgeon and has given me the freedom to do all the activities I want.

Everything was perfect, check in well organized well informed easy access to staff for any concerns and questions. Surgical room was like futuristic.Top of the line modern equipment. Had 2 hip surgeries here both flawless. The attention to the patients after surgery was amazing. Truly cannot say enough of what a wonderful experience this was. DR.LU AND HIS STAFF ARE THE BEST.

I did my research on the best hip surgeons out there, asking my medical colleagues who they would go to...More than a dozen times, the answer was the same...Dr. Edwin Su! I had to wait 3 months for an appointment, but it was worth it. No complications from hip replacement surgery, and I am already doing more at 1 month post-op than I have in 5 years, with less pain!!

I had both hips resurfaced by Dr. Edwin P. Su, five years apart. The first one (right) was very advanced osteoarthritis, ten years ago. The surgery was immediately successful and I could do things, like tie my shoes, that I hadn't been able to do for years. The second one (left) was not initially that bad but became a problem over time. I did not let it get as bad as the first one, due to Dr. Su's expert care, and he resurfaced it about five years ago. Today I am very active and in the best shape I've ever been. I walk several miles a week and go to the gym with a personal trainer and do things I never would have thought possible before hip resurfacing. Dr. Su gave me my life back. That's not an exaggeration. He and his expert staff have always treated me with the utmost consideration and professionalism. The longterm results speak for themselves. I had sought out Dr. Su for his experience in treating athletes with hip arthritis...I was a collegiate athlete, played ice hockey at a D1 school. Still tried to play in leagues, but got progressively harder with my hip condition, which a local doctor diagnosed as arthritis. I was told that I needed a total hip replacement... When I first called for an appointment, it was 3 months out! He is in high demand! But fortunately, the office called me back and told me they had a cancellation and could fit me in sooner...I jumped on that opportunity! Dr. Su was great. He told me that he could resurface my hip instead of a replacement. Surgery was scheduled within a month of the appointment, and my results are terrific! No pain after the surgery, and the therapy has been enjoyable because my hip doesn't hurt anymore! My goal was to return to ice hockey, which I did at 4 months, and have been playing ever since

Dr. Su is skilled, empathetic, and compassionate! Great bedside manner...he is approachable for questions and genuinely cares about his patients. I have had fantastic results from my hip operation!!

I see a lot of reviews about Dr. Su and his treatment of hip arthritis. I was recommended to him by my girlfriend who had double knee replacement by him 8 years ago. Fortunately, I only needed a single knee replacement. I had a wonderful experience and at only 5 weeks out, I can already feel the difference in the joint. Many people had told me that the recovery is painful and difficult; I am so happy to say that my experience was completely painfree. Nerve blocks by the anesthesiologist allowed me to get up and walk on the same day as surgery was performed, and I was home the next day! And my range of motion is already better than before...the therapist can't believe my results!
