Georgette Vojdani

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel a responsibility to share my experience because I do not want someone else to be harmed the way I was. I sought therapy with Dr. Vojdani while I was in what I now recognize was an abusive relationship. I was young, isolated, and did not understand the dynamics of emotional and physical abuse. I was looking for a mental health professional who would help me feel safe, ask the difficult questions, and recognize when something was seriously wrong. Instead, my experience was profoundly harmful. I do not believe Dr. Vojdani exercised the clinical judgment that my situation required. She did not ask the questions that ultimately allowed another therapist to recognize almost immediately that I was living in an abusive relationship. Instead, I believe the therapy compounded the existing power imbalance, left me more dependent on my partner, and delayed my recognition that I needed to leave. I was also deeply troubled by the handling of confidentiality.… During individual sessions, I shared information that I understood to be confidential. My former partner later told me that Dr. Vojdani had shared something I said with him, and he repeated information that accurately reflected what I had disclosed privately. I later reached out to ask whether my former partner had spoken with her before our first session, and I never received a response. After ending therapy, I began seeing another therapist. The difference was immediate. Within the first few sessions, she asked direct questions about my safety, recognized the signs of abuse, helped me understand what I had been experiencing, and gave me the support I needed to begin rebuilding my life. The consequences of this experience were profound. I believe the therapy delayed my recognition that I was in an abusive relationship and gave my partner greater confidence that his behavior was acceptable. Instead of providing protection and professional guidance to a vulnerable young woman, I believe the therapy validated an abusive dynamic. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Vojdani. Given that she represents herself as treating trauma, emotional abuse, and domestic abuse, I found my experience especially disappointing. I hope others in abusive relationships seek a therapist who carefully assesses safety, asks the right questions, and recognizes when one partner is being controlled rather than assuming both partners share equal responsibility.
