I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience. I had LASIK in 2019 and have consistently had 20/15 vision in both eyes. Six weeks ago, I was seen by another doctor at one of your other locations, for concerns of uneven pupils and blurred vision in my right eye that once in a while was going blurry. Left eye vision was still 20/15. At most, there was a slight suggestion that I might need reading glasses in my right eye, but nothing significant. That day, my vision was bothering me a little bit in that right eye, but the during next day and most of the last six weeks since have been fine my vision has been normal 20/15 even at my first appointment at the start of these issues was only six weeks ago, but it came and go so much that I didn’t need glasses. But because my blood pressure was approximately 220/110, and the doctor urged me to go to the emergency room, I don’t feel that my eyes were just properly than either. Because only three days ago I had 20/15 vision. Although I… did not go immediately, my vision was still normal at that time. Blood pressure was high, but I still had my eyesight. Since then, my blood pressure and heart rate have been brought under control. Then, just 3 days ago my vision suddenly deteriorated. This was not a gradual decline. It happened almost overnight. My eyesight is now so poor that I cannot safely drive, and once the sun goes down, I have to be home because I cannot see well enough to drive at night. Driving is how I earn my living, so this has had a devastating impact on my ability to work. Before LASIK, I was extremely nearsighted. The procedure gave me excellent vision, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. That is why it is so alarming that my vision changed so dramatically in such a short period of time (3 days). Because of the sudden change, I went to the emergency room, where I underwent an MRI, CT scan, and several other tests. I left without any real answers from the hospital either. I had already sought medical attention 6 weeks earlier just bandaids to symptoms they’re quite possibly related. When I came to your office, I expected a thorough evaluation to determine why someone with 20/15 vision only 3 days earlier could suddenly no longer see properly. Instead, I felt as though the priority became writing a prescription for glasses because it was after closing time. My appointment extended until approximately 5:30 p.m., and I couldn’t shake the feeling that everyone simply wanted to go home. A prescription for glasses is not an explanation for sudden vision loss. It feels like a temporary Band-Aid rather than an effort to determine the underlying cause. During the examination, the doctor mentioned what sounded like a calcium deposit on or near my optic nerve, unequal pupils, and a few other findings that I unfortunately cannot fully recall. If those findings could be related to my symptoms, then I expected them to be investigated further. Instead, I left without a diagnosis, without a differential diagnosis, and without a clear plan for finding out why my vision changed so suddenly. I was also frustrated because I felt interrupted several times while trying to explain my symptoms. Patients deserve the opportunity to fully describe what they are experiencing, especially when the onset is sudden and severe. Being cut off mid-sentence made me feel dismissed rather than heard. I understand that medical offices have closing times, but my medical emergency did not become less important because it was after 5:00 p.m. If there was not enough time to properly evaluate my condition, I should have been scheduled for the very next business day so the evaluation could be completed thoroughly instead of feeling rushed through the appointment. Right now, I am expected to wait a week for glasses that I do not believe address the actual problem. Meanwhile, I cannot safely drive, which means I cannot work. As an RN, not only do I value technical skills, but I also value excellent communication and a sense of caring that is obvious from all of my providers… Dr. Pham did not disappoint! I have the utmost confidence in the care she provided and look forward to seeing her again.
