Dr. Harry Huo-Tsin Huang, MD

Dr. Huang is a true professional. He remembers details about you, tailors everything to the patient very carefully, errs on the side of caution with your valuable eyes, and is also just a friendly doctor that cares about his patients and staff. I’ve intersected with plenty of doctors and Dr. Huang goes the extra mile to help those under his care, beyond what you might expect. Thanks, Dr. Huang.

I went to Dr. Huang to have cataracts removed and my lenses replaced by Trulign Toric lenses with monovision so that one eye would be for distance and the other for close vision. This is the situation I already had with the use of one contact. We agreed to this, and then Dr. Huang accidentally installed two far lenses. It's not just his error, with the last lens, that is the problem. He actually lied about it to me afterward. It's astounding to me that he would do this. When questioned, he claimed that he inserted a far lens and a near lens. But I lost some of my near vision in the eye that was supposed to get the near lens. He couldn't maintain his lie, though, because the change in my eyesight was provable. After two weeks, he suddenly said he realized what he had done, and, apologizing profusely, returned my money (above Medicare) and offered to operate again for free on the meant-to-be-near-eye. I haven't had it redone because it was almost ten weeks later when this was… possible and I was afraid of damaging that eye. But this should not have happened! The problem is that he has a kind of assembly-line business, operating on 23 or 25 people in a day, and he does not give the patient enough individual attention. He rushes in and out from one patient to another, but he cares a great deal about his reputation which is earned, I think, largely because of the number of patients he handles. There are other nearby surgeons, just as good, who might pay closer attention to the patient. I'm glad that the money was returned, but I'd like a more honest doctor -- someone who is capable of admitting failure. I hope he sees this and changes.

I had a pretty bad experience. he insisted doing unnecessary surgery for a sty. he looked at me for 20 second and said that without hearing my side of story. he made me feel like I am not his patient, but some sort of client, whom he can get money out of. me made me wait for a long long time, just shifting around rooms and locations. I got a second opinion and easily took care of eye problem. he absolutely doesn't care about his patients, and he shows it. how terrible is that.

My first contact with Dr. Huang came just over 30 years ago: My son had a minor problem with an eyelid. Over the years, he has been the eye doctor for my son -- with that 1st problem and with a change in vision in teen years; for my daughter, from vision problems from age 5; for my husband; and for me. Husband and I both had cataract surgery. There have been lots of vision changes over the years. Dr. Huang's professionalism is fantastic! His personal touch is amazing. He has excellent support staff who do testing and pull together information for him before he actually walks in to see you. He explains everything well. He answers questions. He explains WHY you will need to return and WHAT exactly he is watching and monitoring. Yes, it's likely that you can expect a bit of a wait in his office. One reason is because he spends the needed time with the patient at hand, and another reason is that he will work in an emergency patient if needed. Be thankful: There might be the day when YOU… are that "emergency patient" being worked in. Dr. Huang is the eye doctor whom Bethesda physicians select for their own eyes and for the eyes of their own family members. He is excellent. His office has Wi-Fi and coffee, so you'll survive the wait.

I have been seeing Dr. Huang for 17 years. He has provided me exceptional care, and sent me to specialists when needed the same day. I do not notice the wait time. I never feel hurried - I feel like I am in good hands. I am not sure why the other reviewers feel the way they do - it is a small office. One doctor that is highly popular may be the biggest issue. I am just happy for the exceptional care and treatment.

Expect to wait at least 30 to up to 60 minutes for your appt which lasts about 5 minutes. He is already out the door as he is talking to you. Doesn't give much thought to solutions. He might be your guy if you need cataract surgery, but why subject yourself to that? Of course, I left.

Dr. Huang made an inconsistent diagnostic statement, then becomes defensive when asked for clarity, as if one should not expect a clear diagnosis. That's his job. He is rushed all the time--I mean, rattles off everything he sees in the scope, then gets up to leave without even asking if you understood what he just said. Yes, gets up and opens the door to leave while your are grasping at all the medical lingo he just threw at you and what is the actual prognosis to be concerned about? That's just poor and unacceptable patient care. I also noted that my medical record states that certain things were stated by him to me and they were absolutely never stated, such as warnings about medications, and dilation refusal. I was not even asked about having a dilation and the record states I refused and was warned about refusing it. That never happened. There were other false statements on my record about conversations that had never ensued. The benefit of putting up with a person that… has a poor bedside manner and lack of communication skills, is to at least receive a quality medical diagnosis. He's not a good diagnostician based upon my experience. He might have skills in other areas, I cannot speak to that, but I definitely will put my eyesight in the care of another ophthalmologist who has more compassion and concern about patient health, and can communicate medical issues effectively. Doesn't he realize that people leave the office and have to make important decisions about their eyes and need accuracy and guidance? Apparently the next person waiting is more important than the one already in his office. What a disappointment. I have to begin all over again but I am not risking my eyesight with someone too rushed to discuss my care. I'll find a better doctor. Goodbye and good luck!

The doctor told me that I had glaucoma, he put down the wrong eye with the astigmatism and the front desk said they accepted my insurance and they did not. I immediately got a second opinion and found out that he was wrong about everything. He was referred by my parents and, come to find out, and told my mother that she was in the early stages of macular degeneration. It was most likely my visit that alerted my parents to this doctor's utterly dishonest practice. This is a greedy man with no honor or scruples--stay away

I never would use Dr. Huang again, am sorry for ever using him, and am sorry for ever recommending him to anyone else. I believed in and trusted him only to finally learn that he is in medical practice only for as much money as he can make each day. Dr. Huang runs his practice like an assembly line. People are crowded into the waiting room and along the hallways and in examining rooms once one of the medical students - I believe they are medical students - performs the technical evaluations/tests on their eyes. Dr. Huang rushes in and goes over the results of the evaluations/tests performed by the medical students, tells the patient the results and prescribes what the patient needs next, e.g., unnecessary cataract surgery or expensive artificial tears that he sells in his office. He then rushes off to the next patient. Dr. Huang performed unnecessary lens replacement surgery on my right eye. He was next going to perform unnecessary lens replacement surgery on my left eye, but I… stopped my doctor/patient relationship with him after the horrible, unprofessional way my lens replacement surgery (pre and after) was handled. The secretary fulfills the role of nurse and doctor, in terms of prescriptions and pre surgery information and replacement lens selection, which in my case was completely unsatisfactory and led to my having the wrong lens placed in my right eye. Equally if not more important, I did NOT then need replacement lens surgery. On the day of my surgery, Dr. Huang's waiting room was packed with people who were having ophthalmic surgery. Dr. Huang made thousands and thousands of dollars that day as I am sure he does on every ophthalmic surgery day. Dr. Huang needs to be sanctioned by the MD and DC Board of Medicine for making appropriate and excellent ophthalmic care more important than how much money he can make each day by packing patients into his office four days a week and operating on as many patients as he can pack in on his one day a week surgery days..
