After a series of psychiatrists misdiagnosed my wife as schizophrenic, Dr. Asher recognized her as an alcoholic. She got off all the drugs and entered a recovery center, and just celebrated 30 years of sobriety in AA.

Dr. Asher was gentle, a good listener and responsive to my needs. He did not push meds and offered up sound advice - that stuck. I was thoroughly impressed! I highly recommend him!. You are safe with him and will have a psychiatrist that cares about your well-being. ....Steer clear of Centerstone, however. They are BAD news!

I saw Dr. Asher for bipolar disorder in 2003. He prescribed topirimate (topomax) for me. I was only 112 pounds when I started, and down to 100 pounds in less than two weeks. My appetite was nil. My depression was worse than ever. I brought my concerns to Dr. Asher and in a nutshell, his response was "Buckle down, we have to get you to three times your current dose." I then asked him if he knew that topirimate interferred with birth control, and well, let's just say his response was less than kind. I was an older-20's single female and his judgment to stay on the TPm was very uneducated. I asked him, did he read the PDR (physicians' desk reference) about this drug before he prescribed it? - and he said he rarely consulted the PDR. I think Dr. Asher has probably helped a lot of people in his long career, but if I had a teenage daughter or as a woman generally, I'd say PASS and find another.

I was one of many people put on lithium when I didn't need it. Luckily I was able to get off of it and find a Dr. that didn't put all his patients on lithium and 20 years later am completely off all meds thanks for an understanding Dr. that found out what my real issues were. slow thyroid.

Dr. Asher is a fine psychiatrist and helped me when I was extremely ill with schizophrenia. He was my doctor for many years during my early adulthood. I only wish I had listened to him more.
