Dr. Helen Rego Moreira, MD

Dr. Moreira is one of the best doctors I have ever been to. My cataracts were so bad, I couldn’t see very much, I couldn’t drive my car or do much of anything. After she did eye surgery, I am back to my normal routine. Dr. Moreira was so professional, kind and thoughtful. She really cares about her patients. She even phoned me the night of my surgery to make sure I was doing ok. I would highly recommend her to all my family and friends. Thank you Dr. Moreira for everything.

I had gone to others but Dr.Moreira was the only one to diagnose my problem . She was thorough, professional and has a great report with her patients. She is in the process of doing my cataract surgery as well.

The office staff went to extra trouble to get me seen as early as possible. Once at the office, the wait was not long and everyone was very friendly and organized in moving from one station to the next ahead of the exam itself. Dr Moreira was very efficient and straightforward and explained clearly what was going on. I would recommend to anyone looking for an eye doctor.

I've worn glasses and contacts for 35 years and always wanted to have my vision corrected. I looked into LASIK/PRK years ago and just wasn't comfortable having it done. I recently looked into the process again and came across Nielsen Eye and Dr. Moreira. I cannot say enough great things about the staff at Nielsen Eye and Dr. Moreira. Her staff was extremely attentive, caring and knowledgable about the LASIK procedure from beginning to end. I met with Dr. Moreira and she was fantastic! After the initial exam to see if I qualified for LASIK she too was extremely accommodating to my questions and concerns. Morning of the procedure Dr. Moreira and her staff made you feel at ease and were very attentive. The explained every step I was encountering from taking the pre-op eye drops to what will happen during the procedure. Once in the room and you are laid down to start the procedure Dr. Moreira and her staff would constantly update you for each step that was about to happen and what was… happening. There's a two-step process for LASIK, the first step, the slicing of the cornea, was a bit startling because once both eyes are prepped for the laser aspect in the next step you lose all light in your eyes. I was told prior this would happen but I wasn't fully prepared for that experience. I started to have a little panic attack and Dr. Moreira was aware and would talk me through the process. She helped calm me down and we moved on to the next step. During the second step I was able to see the lights of the machine so I started to calm down. The laser part of the procedure took 15 seconds for each eye, again Dr. Moreira guided me through it. Once the procedure was over Dr. Moreira sat me up and I could actually see her and the staff within the room. Although my eyes were extremely foggy from the drops placed in my eyes I was able to get up and walk out of the room on my own. Once home, I had someone drive me home, there's no way you can drive yourself, I took a three hour nap. When I woke up my sight was improving, I was able to see the time on the alarm clock on the otherwise of the room and distances I haven't seen with my naked eye since I was 15. That evening my wife and I went out for dinner, she did have to drive because my eyes were still healing, and I was able to read road signs, far off banners, license plates, you name it I was reading it. I think I was driving my wife crazy by pointing out things that are everyday normal things. At the restaurant I was able to read the menu without my readers. (As of writing this it's been six days since the procedure and I do need my readers for very small type, LASIK doesn't correct nearsightedness.) I've been taking the eye-drops as prescribed and my vision is improving daily. Dr. Moreira mentioned it could take weeks or a month for my vision to be complete. A quick note; my follow-up appointment post-procedure Dr. Moreira checked my eyes and commented that it looked like I never had surgery. That was great to hear. If you have been thinking about getting LASIK done this is a great place to go. As I mentioned the staff and Dr. Moreira were fantastic! As one of the staff members said to me after I asked if she had LASIK done she said 'Yes, it will change your life." I agree. It has changed my life and I wished I had done it earlier. I had my laser eye surgery with Dr Moreira and feel great being able to see both far and near with glasses through out my surgery and follow ups Dr Moreira and her staff were very professional and courteous during and after my surgery I am very please to have Dr Moreira as my eyeDoctor. I received LASEK from Dr. Moreira in both eyes and am now 20/10 which is just crazy, she is an amazing surgeon. This procedure was a breeze for me, I was in and out in an hour and after a nap for a few hours I was myself and back at work the next day.

just went to See Dr Moreira for the first time last week. Had a full eye exam and was thoroughly impressed with her skills, the staff, and the nice office. Will go back next year!
