Dr James D Kang, MD

The first words the top neurosurgeon said after seeing what Kang caused was “ who did this to her?” James Kang is a liar who performed as many inappropriate, hurried, misdiagnosed, and confirmed surgeries as he could squeeze in knowing he was leaving UPMC. Never saw me after surgery. He’s an egomaniac and a liar.

I have had 2 back surgeries by Dr. Kang, and both (about 8 years apart} have had excellent results. I consulted and eventually had the first surgery with Dr. Kang, which was performed in Pittsburgh, PA (fusion of L3 to L5 with 2 rods and 6 screws). The operation was successful, and I was able to resume some activities in a few months, and was playing golf in less than a year. About 7 years later, it was apparent that more work on my back would be necessary, as I no longer was able to play golf. I was living in Florida and felt the only person I would be comfortable with doing the surgery would be Dr. Kang. I flew to Boston for a final consultation and then surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Again the result was successful and I am now playing golf again less than a year later. I would highly recommend Dr. Kang to anyone needing similar surgery. The staff at both locations were wonderful and Dr. Kang is truly a gifted and compassionate doctor. Elaine Warren

Dr Kang did emergency back surgery on me in 1996. My lower back was crushed to bits from a 30 foot fall onto concrete. He saved me. He did a spinal fusion, which was still in its infancy then. I was in great danger of losing mobility, but his magic hands worked miracles, and I walk and live a full life to this day. He deserves every accolade that he is awarded. He’s the best!

Dr. Kang is awesome. Provided me all the info I needed prior to surgery to help me decide. His team, Drs. Comfort and Rosenthal are also top notch. I am in recovery with zero issues and a fast recovery. Surgery really was life changing.

UPDATE: Dr. Kang has now been demoted to " Jimmy the Butcher". its been 2 and a half years since he operated on my low back.. I have never gotten better after his experiment on me.. I was supposed to be his patient, not an experiment that went bad. The pain continues and is worse now than it ever was before my encounter with " Jimmy the Butcher" . I am now looking for another neurologist, to see if anyone has the skills to truly help me.. Kang.. AKA "Jimmy the butcher" definitely did not have the skills to help. He was just screwing around with his ego telling him he was scientist. A Mad scientist at best.

Dr. Kang is an exceptional surgeon. He was the first doctor who finally diagnosed me correctly after 30 years of being in pain. For the first time I have no neck pain and I owe it to Dr. Kang. I highly recommend him, outstanding in every respect.

I went to Dr. Kang for my low back, He stated he needed to do my neck first. he operated twice on my neck, he fused c3-t1, and finally once on my low back. Since our last appointment, I still have no answers as to why I still have electric like shooting pain up my spine, and down my left leg. Its not sciatica, it would have been healed by now. I asked him directly what was wrong with my low back.. his answer was one I could have gotten from a barroom.. " you are a chronic pain sufferer" . I had another fusion l5-s1 when I met Kang he wasn't sure it had fused right.. he stated he was pushing and tugging on it and nothing moved. Well something moved.. I was to find out that he fractured a vertibrea where there was a screw from the past fusion.. when I found out I called and his assistant told me that it have been stable for 2 years.. thats was how long i felt pain and pressure on my sacrum. Still No answers from Dr Kang.. his last words were "call as needed". I tell you now, I am… worse off after meeting Dr. Kang. No answers and still crippled with more pain since his surgery. I walked out of the hospital a day after the surgery feeling the pain and pressure on my Sacrum and lumbar spine and reported it immediately . A lie by omission is a lie.. Dr. Kang omitted many facts from his narrative with me.

Dr. Kang performed surgery on my cervical disks. He took bone from my hip to fuse disks. The first sensation I had post surgery was a loss of sensation on one side of my body which was not addressed and still exists. After still experiencing pain after 8 week’s recovery I had a MRI to determine cause. Dr. Kang called to let me know nothing was seen and I should just concentrate on getting better. Soon after my shoulder froze due to not being able to use my arm post surgery due to pain. After seeing a neurosurgeon he determined cause of my pain and sent me to a physical medicine dr that was able to rehab my shoulder to regain use 10 months after surgery. Dr. Kang should have addressed post surgery symptoms immediately. My mistake was having an orthopedic surgeon do surgery on cervical disks which should have been done by a neurosurgeon.
