Dr. Jared Steven Putnam, MD

Dr Putnam serves the purpose. Ten minute appointment a year for meds. It takes me a day to get over being upset by his rude receptionist. She has access to all voice messages so be aware you have no privacy.

Dr. Putnam's receptionist is astonishingly rude. If I were a new patient, I might interpret it as a bad sign and look elsewhere for treatment.

The absolute WORST psychiatrist I have ever been to, and I’ve been to several psychiatrists over the last 15 years for Bipolar Disorder. Jared Putnam would give these ridiculous metaphors to prove his point and they never made any sense. He told me that my brain was like an iPhone and it would never get better (“you can’t go back to an old iPhone model”). He told me that because I had some residual depression from an episode many years earlier, I would never be happy again and his job was to merely make me “comfortable.” I told him that the Lamictal was giving me side effects and he said he didn't want to change my meds because it could “blow up in our faces.” Jared Putnam insisted that the Lamictal was not giving me side effects even though I started having trouble processing what I was reading and started making typing errors and misspellings when I am a very good speller. He didn’t ask any questions to figure out what was causing the sudden cognitive problems and didn't… seem to care in the slightest. He tried to convince me that the Lamictal was like a sandwich and “if you eat a sandwich and then get run over by a car, is it the sandwich’s fault?” After stopping seeing Jared Putnam, I went off of the Lamictal, and as I suspected, my cognitive problems cleared up quickly. Jared Putnam always acted like I was ignorant and never collaborated or made any choices or decisions on his own, either. Basically, he was completely passive in helping me and nothing ever changed or progressed. I just suffered from side effects that he denied were from the medications. I don't understand why Jared didn't value my opinion because I read about Bipolar Disorder medications all the time and I have a Master's of Science in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University (with Highest Honors) and took courses to become a Psychiatrist before choosing to become an Expressive Arts Therapist. If you read Jared Putnam's other reviews, you will see that former patients, including me, want his license to be revoked. Jared Putnam would charge me $175 extra for medication management but NEVER actually talked about my meds or tweaked them. When I finally saw the bill and realized I was spending over $375 for one visit for absolutely nothing but to feel dismissed and belittled, I stopped going. Please go to Jared's website and read his resume...it is almost blank. Jared went to a subpar medical school and then earned no experience at a hospital or clinic and was never a Professor. He went straight from school to opening a private practice. If you want to go to an expensive Psychiatrist who does not ask you questions to garner information, doesn’t take notes, makes arrogant, ignorant, poorly constructed metaphors to try to convince you he is knowledgeable...if you want to go to a used car salesman, Jared Putnam is the one!!! (He reminded me of wheeler and dealer Ari Gold from Entourage!)

This doctor's singular lack of empathy for another human being's suffering is remarkable. Tell him about your life, why you have emotional pain, and he will rebuff you ever so smugly. Tell him about medication side effects, and he says, "That's what happens." Not kidding.Terribly hurtful. And he will not be averse to treating you as if you have no brains or mind of your own, after all, HE's the Psychiatrist, the cream-of-the-crop, tip-of-the-top; and, you, after all, are mental. Going elsewhere.

Dr Putnam is ok, I see him for 15 minutes a year unless something needs adjusting. He is good with meds. The receptionist has not been effusive...wonder why he has a grumpy person?is it a test??

Dr Putnam is wonderful. His receptionist, however, is incredible rude and makes the experience a bit stressful, which is unfortunate because Dr Putnam is an amazing doc. Not to mention he accepts accepts insurance, while most phsychiatrists do not.

Very friendly receptionist. She helped me with insurance issue and gave me exact directions to office.

This doctor is rude, arrogant, smarmy and has absolutely no empathy. He has no business being a psychiatrist. He actually seems amused by the troubles his patents encounter. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT use this doctor.

Never have met a doctor so uncaring. Was basically looking in the other direction when I was talking to him . I have never in my life seen such unprofessionalism .Billed insurance company for 45min and saw me for 10 min. Have a big problem with this ethically. I was crying my eyes out when talking to him no response from him. People that went in before me came out 10min later with blank look on face. I have already reported him to the insurance conpany and will go further by reporting him to medical licensing board. I have stage 4 cancer so my wife goes with me to appointments to take notes which I have done with all doctors.. This so called Dr.Putnam sent a bill for my wife as well. Even asked him if we could meet with him together, he said he'll meet with us separtly and met with my wife for less than 10 min and billed the insurance company as well . Beware of this doctor at all costs of you need someone to listen and take care of things. Called the billing office to give them a… chance to rectify the situation. They never even returned call. Sad excuse for Dr.....shame on you

I saw Dr. Putnam for several years (out of convenience, more or less). If you are looking for a doctor who will prescribe you what you ask for, then he is the one for you. I got everything that I asked for. He spent very little time getting to know me or asking any real questions to try and figure out what my problems were and how to best treat them. Dr. Putnam just continued to push more medication on me. Dealing with the front office staff made me dread going in to the office or calling in with any issues I might have. They are consistently rude, talk down to you and dismiss any concerns you have. I often found that they did not relay my messages or questions to Dr. Putnam. When I was committed to the hospital, he refused to talk to any of the physicians, psychiatrists or my family, even though it was a life or death situation.
