Dr. Jason Comander

Recently I was diagnosed with a detached retina in my right eye. Having lost my left eye as a teenager due to injury, this increased the seriousness of my situation and certainly caused my wife and I some anguish. After consulting with my local ophthalmologist it was agreed that the best option for care would be to travel to Mass Eye and Ear. Entering MEE through emergency, it was there that I was examined by the on-call retina specialist Dr. Stryjewski who discussed with us in detail the extent of the detachment and his recommended surgical procedure. He also stated that he wanted to consult with Dr. Comander prior to surgery to confirm his diagnosis as they would both be executing the procedure. At 2 PM the next day as I was being prepped for surgery I met Dr. Comander who did a final examination and explained in detail the procedure and expected outcome. As he began to leave the room he stopped and turned to say to my wife and I in a soothing way,“Please don’t be nervous or… concerned. You have come to the right place and you are not the first “one-eyed” patient we have successfully treated. Everything will go just fine”. The sincerity and candor of Dr. Comander’s words draped a blanket of calmness over us. For the first time since the detachment, our worries subsided. “I had come to the right place”.It has been one month since my retinal detachment surgery and I am well on the mend. I have been examined by Dr. Comander twice since and the healing process is meeting expectations. I will see Dr. Comander again in two weeks and look forward to the kind and considerate care and attention that he provides. I can’t emphasize it enough, “I had come to the right place”. Dr. Comander as well as Dr. Stryjewski, their staff, and the MEE emergency room and the surgical staff is the finest care team I have ever experienced. Some quick research will specify that Massachusetts Eye and Ear has earned an international reputation for its successful treatment of the most difficult diseases and conditions of the eye. So the bar of expectation for medical care is set. However Dr. Comander raises that bar as he and his team truly put meaning and delivery to the word care. Whether in the examining room, surgical center or bedside, you are treated with faithful and selfless precision.

I woke up that morning and I was in darkness in one eye there are no words to describe how I felt then Dr. Comander was on duty he performed emergency surgery on me that morning I was very lucky to have him and his team for my care I was very scared but his care put me at ease and help me gain confidence because of him I am doing very well and my vision is much better now Thank you Dr. Comander you are the best!

Dr Comander has been exceptional in the care of his patients, I have seen him in both his Boston and Stoneham offices , He takes time to listen intently to his patients. I am fortunate to have him as my eye Dr and highly recommend him. He also understands patients dealing with eye problems are frightened facing vision loss and he and his staff take time to show those in need that the staff and Dr care about them, which makes us all feel a bit of of comfort. He also explains decisions he makes to his patients before performing any procedures. I could not ask for a better or more caring Doctor, technicians or Office staff.

I work in the medical field and while at work, I suddenly started having flashes in my eye. I called and Dr. Comander agreed to see me. I was unfortunately running late at work. Dr. Comander waited for me and saw me after the clinic was long over and did a very thorough retinal exam on my eye. If you have ever had a retinal exam with scleral depression you know that it can HURT! He was very patient and gentle. Great bedside manner. Wonderful doctor. Highly recommend.
