Dr. Jennifer Louise Schaefer, MD

I saw Dr. Schaefer for my first OB/GYN visit after turning 21. I have a family history of some gynecological issues and voiced my concern early. When scheduling the appointment, I told them it was my first time getting a pelvic/pap. Then when I arrived for my appointment, I told the nurse it was my first time. When Dr. Schaefer came in the room, she asks "Has anything changed since your last pelvic exam?" I understand how busy doctors are (I work in healthcare) but come on. It was my main reason for going to the office. She had me change into the gown and really without warning or explanation, she began the exam. She did not explain what she was doing or when, just told me "slight pressure". I was already anxious and the fact that she rushed into everything didn't help. After the pelvic/pap, I told her that my periods have been more painful for the last half year, and that my flow had been heavy for a longer amount of time. She minimized everything I was saying and said "I only get… concerned when a woman tells me she bleeds heavily for more than a week". Again, I understand that, but as someone who had very regular periods for several years, my more recent cycles have NOT been normal for me. I was very disappointed in my visit and felt slightly traumatized. I did not feel heard as a patient. One of the other OB/GYN's in the practice actually delivered me when I was born so I thought I'd have luck there. However, I will not be returning, at least to Dr. Schaefer.

I was referred to her by my GP as I found out I had a Cyst. She was very short and did not explain much of what it was and what needed to be done. She was not helpful when I asked questions and seemed to give only quick general answers. I was sent for a follow up Ultrasound and it took her a month to call to give me the results. Once I did call her back after missing the call it was another week before I heard back. I am a college educated middle aged woman and I don't like being treated like a number or an idiot.

-- The standard phone greeting at this practice is "OB-Gyne Associates, please hold..." with a wait time between 5-30 minutes! -- Follow-up calls for lab results are non existent. I've had to call them each and every time after patiently waiting for their call that never came. -- In office delays are a given. Over the last 15+years that I've been going to this practice I've probably been seen on time just a handful of times. Not to mention how many times I've arrived early, or worse yet, been half dressed in the exam room waiting on the doctor only to find out that the doctor has been called away for an "emergency" delivery. -- These doctors also frequently push services/procedures on you without really covering all options. -- The proof is in the pudding. Check out a quick internet search on yelp, health grades, etc I've stuck with this practice too long and I wish I'd have left a lot sooner.

I have been a patient with Dr. Schaefer's office for well over 10 years and would, and do, highly recommend her and her group to anyone. They are professional, courteous and accommodating.

I went to this doctor for a second opinion on pain from a C-section. Not only did she not ask any health questions, but she was more interested in who delivered my baby than in how I was feeling or what I needed. The worst part of the visit was that she was called away (along with the only other doctor in the office) for an emergency surgery and nobody in the office informed me for almost 30 to 40 minutes while I was waiting half clothed for a pelvic exam. I was then told I had to wait an additional hour to complete my appointment. When I said I could not wait that long I was offered an appointment that was over a month away, and no apology for the situation. This entire office is unprofessional, and this was a terrible experience. I would steer people away from this doctor and her practice. Very bad...
