Dr. John David Dowdle, MD

When I saw Dr. Dowdle for a trigger thumb, he gave me a cortisone injection in the wrong place! I tried to tell him he had numbed my palm instead of the base of my thumb, and as I was talking, he jabbed me anyway. It hurt so much I involuntarily flinched and grabbed my hand away, but he kept injecting me anyway. My middle finger went numb instead of my thumb. When I told him, he said that was normal and not to worry. Needless to say, the injection did nothing for my thumb. Later, when I went to a different doctor, she gave me the injection in the right place and my thumb went numb like it’s supposed to from the lidocaine. The second doctor told me it usually takes two injections for the trigger thumb to heal but because I had technically already been injected once, I could only get one more injection. Needless to say, I still have my trigger thumb, although it is a little less painful. Dr. Dowdle wasted an injection and tried to tell me everything was fine when it wasn’t.

Had a horrible experience with Dr. Dowdle. Went to see him to get a second opinion about Kienbock’s decease and he was extremely rude about the fact that i saw other doctors before him for TFCC tear over the last 3 years. He told me to go back to those doctors. He spoke in a very condescending tone and made me cry in front of my teenage son. He didn’t apology or tried to explained his attitude. I am still confused and in shock over what happened and why he was so rude to me.

I found the doctor aloof and not very friendly I will not come back.

If you like pain, you'll love Dr Dowdle. He's a glorified car mechanic with no regard for his patients

great doctor ,had surgrey with no issue's.going back to him with another problem.

Performed unnecessary biopsy in order to determine what a first year hand specialist would know by sight. He is in network yet his billing company sent me a bill and when I called they said you owe us nothing and then sent the bill to collections who are now hounding me. Incompetent office billing staff.

I am returning to Dr. John, this time with a new issue with my other hand, because I TRUST him so completely! Very seriously & truthfully: he literally saved my left arm years ago, correcting the damage a previous surgeon in NJ left me with! I would reccommend Dr. Dowdle without reservation!

I was impressed by the level of professionalism exhibited by the doctor and his staff. He was thorough, his diagnosis was accurate, and the surgery was flawless. When I went back a year later for a different problem, he again impressed me with his diagnosis and his treatment. He doesn't always insiste on surgery.

Performed a painful biopsy on my hand to find out what I had. Afterwards I sought a second opinion and the other Dr asked why a biopsy was done as it was unnecessary as I had ... condition. Oh well, live and learn. Seek a second opinion and maybe a third before a biopsy or surgery.
