Dr. John Joseph Granato JR., MD

Wow. Clearly a trend. They hire this clown to patently deny any requests coming down the pike for Cigna. A urologist. Providing peer to peer decisions regarding a neuro vestibular case. This is the kind of guy they make podcasts about. Can't believe that anybody would have to suffer an office visit, much less any sort of procedure under the guidance of this man. Terrifying.

Without even a shadow of a doubt, John Granato, Jr. (in Glendale, CA) is definitely the most cold, callous, unscrupulous, unethical, and just downright incompetent “doctor” who I’ve ever encountered.... in my entire life!! And suffice it to say, over the years, I’ve certainly encountered quite a few doctors and medical professionals in my lifetime. So it’s definitely not as though I wouldn’t have a basis of comparison in making that same assessment. By far and away, John Granato is the worst of them all!! This supposed “doctor” of urology knows absolutely nothing at all about me, my medical history, any of the extenuating circumstances surrounding my particular medical condition and diagnosis, or even my name, for that matter. And yet, for some unknown reason, this conceited Narcissist somehow feels as though it is only his medical viewpoints that matter. And furthermore, that he knows what’s in my best interests as the patient?? Despite several of my own doctors going around and… around.... and around and around some more with John Granato during my peer-reviewed appeal, and despite all of them trying to convince him that my specific medical procedure/treatment would indeed qualify as being truly “medically necessary”, John Granato STILL has the unbelievable temerity to deny my treatment, on behalf of CIGNA. The reason being (according to his Holier Than Thou Almighty medical opinion, evidently) that the treatment in question wouldn’t be truly “medically necessary” in nature. Those were his exact words, time and again, which he’d used to disagree with several of my own doctors, which in turn, had resulted in my insurance claim being denied. Seriously, what planet is this guy living on, when he can deny truly medically necessary treatment for cancer patients, of all people?? Rather than advocating on the patient’s behalf and doing what would be in the patient’s best interests, this doctor evidently chooses to sell out his morals, his integrity, and his conscience in exchange for the Almighty dollar.... which he receives, by the way, from the very same insurance companies that he is compensated to represent. First and foremost, it is to the insurance companies (namely CIGNA) which this so-called “doctor” has his allegiances to. Please don’t ever be fooled into believing otherwise. Not even for a nanosecond, will John Granato ever truly care about you, the patient. Believe me, he certainly does NOT. And if you want my brutally honest assessment of this so-called “doctor”, I’d honestly have to say that he is really nothing more than a paid ‘Yes’ man on CIGNA’s payroll who gladly and willingly does everything which they tell him to do.... no matter how unethical it might be. Unfortunately, this includes him (as their representative) denying as many treatments and procedures as possible, simply to help CIGNA in reducing their payouts on legitimately medically necessary claims - like mine had been. (Google his name and then look up his LinkedIn profile as a CIGNA Medical Director, if there’s still any doubt....) Quite simply, this is the last urologist on the planet who I, personally, feel would EVER be capable and/or qualified to render truly ethical and unbiased “care” to patients in accordance with their (not the insurance companies’) individual needs. Based on so many of the other overwhelmingly negative reviews about this same “doctor”, it would certainly appear to me that I’m obviously not the only one who feels this same way either. For me, personally, I honestly feel as though this John Granato character makes a flippantly egregious mockery of the Hippocratic Oath of “doing no harm” to patients!!

Wrote decision to deny laparoscopic adrenalectomy for suspected tumor due to request for inpatient surgery status, even though I had a history of cancer, imaging scans showing masses, and a plan for three mass removals across my abdomen. Surgery was pushed back to allow time to appeal the decision allowing the cancer to spread to my liver. Cigna hatchet man who cares more about dollars than his hippocratic oath.

Denies Cigna insurance cases that are medically necessary in the blink of an eye. Heartless and cold. Does not care about patients at all.

During my one (and thankfully, only) visit with this urologist, I was totally shocked to see that he didn't even wash his hands either before and/or after examining me. That was the first disappointment, especially seeing as how we are in the midst of this Corona virus outbreak?! That was just totally appalling. The second disappointment came when I asked John Granato just a couple of general questions about some of my symptoms, which seemed to greatly annoy him. His response to the effect of: "what's the matter, you don't believe what I'm saying.... which of us is wearing the white doctor's coat right now, you or me? Do you think that you're a doctor or something?" (direct quotation from him) was BEYOND rude and disrespectful! The third and final straw was when this doctor basically tried to milk my insurance for at least three additional (and what I felt were totally unnecessary) follow-up appointments) for the next couple of months, which he tried to schedule all on the same day.… Really? Who does that? Who tries to schedule out months in advance, for multiple appointments without even first giving the patient a specific diagnosis? (Which is exactly what happened here when I'd asked him what my diagnosis was, which was when he became just downright rude and patronizing.) After realizing that this doctor was clearly not going to be suitable for my needs and politely attempting to thank him for his time anyways, what happened next was just beyond incomprehensible, that I'm still in shock that it even happened. Just as both of my feet were barely out of the office doorway, this doctor then takes a couple of quick steps towards me, sarcastically blurts out: "hey, do your spouse a favor, won't you? Try not to pee the bed tonight with your spouse laying there, it will get his clothes all wet. This should help....." And it was at this time that John Granato then tossed an adult diaper (clean/new, still in its original package) on the floor at my feet, before violently slamming the door in my face!! I was so unbelievably outraged that a doctor could behave this way? Posting negative reviews online is something that I very seldom do, however, I really honestly feel like the medical community should be made aware of this. Prospective patients should kind of have an idea what is in store for them, before deciding to visit this doctor. In all honesty, I really don't feel like he is in the right profession. His egregious conduct is definitely not aligned with the Hippocratic Oath of "do no harm", including chastising, disrespecting, and humiliating one of your own patients.

Just a very cold and callous "doctor" - if I am forced to even use that word in the first place to technically describe him and his profession. This particular doctor (John Granato) in my opinion, just makes things so much worse for his patients by not listening to and/or validating their concerns, or the concerns voiced by their other medical providers besides himself. Honestly to me, it does kind of seem like this doctor is maybe a bit delusional in thinking that he knows everything and what is best for everyone. Evidently, he does not have very good listening or communication skills, nor does he exhibit true care or concern for his patients. The one and only thing which I feel this doctor cares about is money - more money to line his own pockets with even at the expense of his patients' proper quality of care. The pocketbook of John Granato (and NOT the best interest of the patient) seems to me, to be what this doctor values most. So quite honestly, you would probably be much better… off, in my opinion, seeking out a different doctor besides John Granato. This one has very poor bedside manner, and also doesn't seem to follow all of the specific doctrines outlined in the Hippocratic Oath of "doing no harm." That widely accepted philosophical approach to practicing medicine which has been used for centuries and centuries in the medical community evidently seems to be nothing more than a fleeting afterthought for John Granato. Those are all of my own personal opinions based upon my interactions with this particular doctor, but perhaps your own may differ slightly.

This doctor is extremely insensitive. John Granato does not seem to care about the patients in his care. Each of my 3 visits here got worse and worse. The first visit was a whopping $300 out of pocket, which lasted for no more than 5 minutes in total. The next visit a few days later was another $300, but nothing was prescribed or treated. The third and thankfully visit a few days later was also an additional $300 out of pocket only for him to tell me "sorry but there is nothing I can do to treat your condition, now if you'll excuse me I have other patients to see." Those were his exact words before just walking out of the office, leaving me standing there with a whole bunch of unresolved questions about my condition. Needless to say, I was in such shock that I really couldn't do anything except get up and leave. The whole interaction was so unprofessional and rude on his part, nevermind the fact that I'm now out $900 plus yet without any actual treatment for my condition. I don't… usually write negative reviews about places, especially because of the bad publicity that comes with those negative reviews. However, in the case of John Granato, I'm very sorry to say that I will make an exception in his case. Based on his very unprofessional, cold and callous treatment of me as a patient - and apparently others also from what I've read here on this site, I feel that the public does deserve to know. Make your own decision about your care, but my personal opinion is that this is an unethical, deceptive fraud of a so-called "doctor" who really cares about nothing else except squeezing every single penny that he can out of his patients. None of my urological conditions were truly "treated" by this doctor. He never accurately diagnosed my condition or my symptoms, and just kept scheduling additional appointments to try to earn more and more fees. Honestly, it is such a travesty that "doctors" such as this one are in the medical profession for all the wrong reasons. Avoid this so-called "doctor" at all costs if you truly value your medical (and financial) health and well-being.

This Doctor is a collossal moron. I have had several interactions with him as a medical director where he simply denies requests for medically necessary surgery even though I have clearly given a valid indication. He forms his opinion on baseless jargon CIGNA provides him with and lacks the intellect required to make the right decision and help patients obtain the care they need. Clearly from the reviews on here its apparent that I'm not the only one that feels this way. I truly feel terrible for the patients that are affected by his lack of judgement and poor clinical decision making skills.

This “doctor” was asked to review a case for Cigna. While I’m sure I may disagree with several practitioners on the indications for surgery, I was amazed at how little interest he had in a collegial discussion. He is from a different specialty and really should be deciding about cases outside his area of expertise. Pretty disgusting that a physician would sell out the very foundation of his oath in order to make some extra money on the side.

Was asked to review a vascular surgery case for Cigna and denied it instead of saying he wasn't qualified to comment on an issue out of his area of expertise.
