Dr. John Carlton Redfern, MD

After a fall from a ladder, I had broken multiple bones in my left arm, shattered my right elbow and dislocated plus fractured my right shoulder. Most of my injuries were healing well except my shoulder which still did not feel right 3 months after the accident. I was referred to Dr Redfern by one of my other trusted surgeons for a second opinion. Redfern made us feel very comfortable, discussing our options and candidly answering our questions. We made the decision to move forward with the surgery to repair the fracture. With his guidance I have progressively gotten better even as we discovered other issues and had to do another surgery. Redfern had to schedule special consults with insurance to get the proper procedures done and he always was able to get the care that I needed approved. I am so appreciative for his skill and expertise and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to others. All his support staff are amazing, but especially Phillip Falender and Jamie Cook should be… recognized for their upbeat and encouraging attitudes.

I.came to Dr Redfern in 2017 after moving to Colorado Springs. My case is a particularly complex one. Some doctors have looked at my history and more less turned me away. Dr. Redfern was kind and compassionate and also honest with me. He has performed a replacement with a spacer, a permanent reverse shoulder and at the end of this month will perform a total shoulder on my left side. Through all my dealings with him and his staff, I have never felt like just a paycheck. This next shoulder will be my tenth replacement for me and I do have experience choosing a.Dr. I would and have recommended Dr Redfern to anyone facing Orthhopedic challenges

Dr Redfern saw me for my injured knee on 5-10-18. I had fallen 6 weeks prior to my appointment and had already been seen by 2 different doctors in Arizona. I appreciate Dr.. Redfern for his kind, compassionate and gentle care. He did not cause me to experience the extreme pain that a previous doctor had during the examination of my knee. He was thorough and clearly explained the details of my knee injury. I was so relieved when he told me that I may not need surgery. One of the previous doctors had painted a scary picture after she saw my MRI results. She said that my knee was "a mess" and that I'd require surgery. It felt like a thousand pounds rolled off my shoulders as he informed me that there are other options for treating my knee and that surgery is a last resort. He performed the injection of my knee with such competence that it wasn't nearly as painful as I'd anticipated. I was amazed at how much better my knee felt that afternoon! And I continue to have… significant relief from the pain. I wish that I'd seen Dr. Redfern from the start! I'd recommend him in a heartbeat!

Dr. Redfern preformed two total shoulder replacements on me in 2012. His diagnosis was spot on. The post-op experience was much less dramatic than what others told me it would be. And my PT recovery and Dr. Refern's follw-up was been excellent.

In Colorado for vacation when fell and shattered ankle and lower leg. Dr. Redfern performed emergency surgery-fitting me in on a busy Friday afternoon. From first experience in emergency room to when he checked me before leaving hospital, I experienced superior, competent care. He bent over backwards to help me get pain situation under control with numberous medicine allergies and to help me make flight home with my family. And he got the rest of the hospital staff on board as well. My docs back in Michigan said he did an excellent job on the surgery putting multiple broken bones back together. Colorado is fortunate to have him!
