Dr. John James Sharkey, MD

Be careful. If you book through ZocDoc, the doctor's office makes it seem like you are scheduling with Dr Sharkey but they will really book you with an internal medicine doctor who has the option of referring you to Dr Sharkey. You will have to deal with an obnoxious receptionist at his office who thinks this is a perfectly fine practice to straighten this out. Starting off by tricking the patient does not bode well for care at this office. They will claim after you have wasted your time booking the appointment that you will see a notice alerting you to the fact that you are NOT seeing Dr Sharkey.. I did not see one and furthermore this game of tricking people and then covering their tracks with a notice is a waste of any busy persons time who just wants to see an orthopedist.

I have mixed reviews. My shoulder surgery was 1/2 successful. I had a subpec tendonesis, debridement and RC repair ( all in the same shoulder) One of the problems I had is a very loose joint capsule from chronic instability. Obviously and visually it was clear my shoulder was hanging out of joint. I asked him at my first appointment if he would be able to tighten the joint back and he said no problem. When it became time to check in with me before the surgery he forgot. My shoulder isn't subluxing anymore but I'm still left with chronic anterior shoulder pain, pain where my anchor is, and still have instability. His staff is great - after they got rid of "Kim" I went through 20 other doctors before I found Sharkey, he is a really cool guy. But you've really got to keep hammering at your chief complaints and make sure before you have work done. He understands. A word of warning with OSU appointments they are usually less than 5 mintues long. So if you need to ask him a lot of… questions. Bullet point them on a piece of paper. BIGGEST drawback I had a left RC surgery which was botched I needed to have it redone. After I had it redone I'm left with instability again and chronic anterior pain, which an RFA HELPED with immensely. I'm a welder and need my shoulders so naturally I was scared out of my mind before getting my right done. I pleaded with his office for something for the anxiety and all I got was "no" or "you'll have to talk to your GP" Which I don't/didn't have. I will go back to have him look at my knee within the coming years though. He does explain things very well and takes a ton of pictures. I wish he would: Take more time with his patients. Give them something for anxiety if they need it. Listen a little bit better when they say they have instability.
