Dr. John Edgar Tis, MD

I took my son to Dr. Tis because his feet turned inward when he walked. The receptionist was very friendly and the waiting room was clean, organized with plenty of things to keep kiddos entertained. And not a long wait which is always a great thing. However, we waited in the room for about 45-55 minutes. I kept my son busy playing games. Dr. Tis comes in very impatient and gave me the feeling like we were bothering him. I explained the history and he proceeded to have my son walk a few steps then check his legs and feet and told me he was fine. Just to get him insoles I expressed my concern with the way his toes were, tripping and that he was in pain. his tone was dismissive he looked very annoyed because my son was watching YouTube while we talked. Needless to say the whole visit seem rushed and the diagnosis didn’t seem correct. I saw another Dr. and she told me my son needed surgery.

I write this 20 years after receiving treatment from Dr. Tis at the Maryland Trauma Ctr. in Baltimore. Although he did not perform the spinal fusion surgery (thankfully) after a 25-foot fall, he was my attending physician and was the doc I saw most often. I dreaded his nasty visits. He was impatient, mean, rough and uncaring. Whenever I enter a hospital, fears of encountering "another Dr. Tis" haunt me. I happened across his name, and after two decades, I am happy to go on the record. I hope for his patients sake that he took an anger management course.

Dr.Tis is very kind and listened to everything that we had done with other practices and reviewed all the reports and imaging results . He then explained what we need to do and how to manage the issue at hand. Thank you for the help

Dr. Tis is great with my son. He talks to and explains things to him in a way that a 10 year old can understand. Post op Dr. Tis called himself to make check on his recovery.

Dr Tis was able to make me run for the first time in my life. Knowing that I had mjor anxitey and autism he always made sure I was compterble and know he will take care of me

My child had surgery with Dr Tis, to repair what he told us was a hip labral tear and articular cartilage defect, detected on MRIs. During surgery, he did not find or repair these problems. Instead he released the psoas tendon, which really kept my child from walking even on crutches for 6 weeks after surgery. I did not give consent for this unnecessary procedure. It did not improve symptoms at all. Thankfully, one year after this surgery, my child is now walking without pain as we found another surgeon with more experience in treating these injuries. The correct diagnosis was hip labral tear with impingement, and was confirmed by scans and second opinions.

Dr. Tis was chosen as a second opinion when deciding if a surgery was necessary for my 6 year old. Although, very apprehensive about "surgery" for my child. Dr. Tis was very upfront and most importantly honest about the procedure, pros and cons of having and not having the surgery. Other than the experience and knowledge of his field I loved how compassionate he was and my child liked him. When in doubt check him out.

Excellent orthopedic surgeon. My daughter had a knee condition and was seen by several physicians who were not able to diagnose her condition. Dr. Tis diagnosed the problem and took care of that. I will always be grateful.
