Dr. Joseph Paul Lee, MD

Dr. Lee listened to me; gave me a preliminary diagnosis while discussing possible treatment; told me what to expect in short term; asked if I had any questions; told me the plan of treatment. He was thorough and very professional and quite pleasant. I could not have been more satisfied with the experience.

Came in to West Coast ENT for a simple ear cleaning (had water stuck in my ear). Dr. Lee examined my ears and confirmed what I already knew, Surfer's Ear in both ears. He went on to tell me about how exhausting the surgery is for the doctor performing it, how tired their arms get, how they get carpal tunnel from it, how my face could be paralyzed, how my jaw could get screwed up, and how my eardrum could get destroyed. Said my left ear was 100% closed (even though water got in a couple days before), refused to give me drops to help dry it out or mitigate an infection, refused to try to clean it out, and told me not to come back until I was ready to do surgery. My copay isn't cheap ($75) so paid that to have someone who is supposed to help you tell you to screw off. I now have a severe infection in my ear, thanks Dr. Lee!

My husband and I both had en excellent experience with Dr. Lee, he is very knowledgeable and caring doctor.

Never had such a bad experience with a doctor. He has a the bedside manner of a broken chair. I've been there twice and each time it's like he hasn't slept and, like a toddler, could really use some nap time. I've never been cut-off by a doctor before when trying to describe symptoms or explain my condition. I tried asking a couple of questions and he just blew right past them. He then had that audacity to ask why I came to his office in the first place. "Well Doc I was referred here and this was a follow up that your office had me schedule? Why are you here?" Never again. He may be smart, and he may have given me an accurate diagnosis, but I'd rather go deaf than see him again.

Given the negative reviews I thought I'd add my recent experience. Expecting the worst I found Dr. Lee to be really pleasant. I especially appreciated that he really seemed to listen to what I was saying and honestly told me that my symptoms were pointing to different diagnoses. I needed a referral to a specialist after receiving my test results and he personally called the Dr. to ensure I could get an early appointment. I would recommend him.

I only saw Dr Lee once, but I would happily go back to him again. He treated me for a sinus infection which promptly went away with antibiotics. At my visit I asked him questions about my thyroid. Another surgeon had recommended an urgent surgery for a large thyroid which has grown into my chest. Dr Lee spent most of his time answering my questions about the thyroid, and he agreed to look at my CT scans and records. Within a week, he called me with his recommendations. It was a relief to know that my problem wasn't an emergency because my trachea wasn't being pinched. But he recommended that I go back to my original surgeon to schedule surgery which would involve opening my chest.

I saw Dr Lee for two separate surgical problems for two completely unrelated issues regarding my thyroid and my salivary glands. He explained the most likely diagnoses and he explained the evaluation for each problem. I am an engineer, and I appreciated his very logical approach to evaluating my nodule and tumor. Dr Lee seems to be even more at ease in the hospital than in the office. He encouraged me to seek other opinions when I was hesitating about my treatment options. In the end, I returned to Dr Lee. Both of surgeries went smoothly. Unrelated to his office, the inpatient nurses at Virginia Hospital Center some of the most pleasant I've ever encountered. On busy days, the waiting room can be a bit hectic, and the biggest complaint I have is that parking at the hospital center can be difficult to find. The office staff is excellent. Oh! The first thing Dr. Lee does when he walks into the room is to wash his hands. I'll see him again if any other ENT problem arises.

Dr. Lee is knowledgeable, no doubt about that. However he will test your knowledge as well and will not take your concerns with relevancy. I felt like he was trying to make me believe that my sinus problems (migraine, sore throats, and mucus on the back of my throat) were a product of my imagination. I don't recommend this doctor and do not plan on going back. Please look at other review sites or spend your money to see him and you will confirm what I am saying.

Horrible doctor. He formed an opinion before I had a chance to explain my situation in full, and refused to listen when I tried to explain. Don't waste time on this one.
