Dr. Karen Bassichis Saland, MD

I will not return to Saland Vision and I cannot recommend it to anyone else. If all you need are glasses or contacts, there are less expensive and easier places to deal with. If you want serious healthcare, this is not the place for that. I have had some concerning health and ophthalmological issues that need continuing care. My long time ophthalmologist retired. So I was concerned about getting a new doctor up to speed. When I called to make an appointment, I asked that Saland have my prior ophthalmologist’s files transferred to them. The person on the phone was not prepared to handle that kind of request and just said, you can ask for that when you get here. When I arrived, I asked again. Again, they were unprepared to deal with that request and told me to ask the doctor. When someone came to get me from the waiting room, she gave me her name but did not tell me whether she was a doctor, a technician, or a nurse. I asked her again about what needed to be done to get my… prior medical history. Again I was told to ask the doctor, which was the first clue I had that this was not the doctor. Then, someone else came to examine my eyes. I asked about the medical records again. Again,I was told to ask the doctor. When the doctor finally came in, I asked again about the transfer of my medical records. The doctor looked at my electronic files and said “we do not have your prior medical records.” I said I knew that and I wanted to know what needed to be done to get them transferred. She said I should do that. I asked her how I should do that. She said that I should call my former doctor. I explained again that he retired and closed his office and that I couldn’t call him. She said that they would see what they could do. I am very near sighted. I wear a single contact lens in my left eye for distance vision. I wear no correction in my right eye to allow me to read. Saland Vision did not like that arrangement because my right eye is dominant and they said my distance correction should be in my dominant eye. I explained that my history would show that I wore distance correction in my right eye for many years and it worked great but then my eyes changed. I cannot read out of my left eye anymore but I can read out of my right eye. After trying multiple things my prior doctor found correcting my left eye for distance worked best. Probably because they did not have my history, Saland decided to retry everything my prior doctor already tried. This, of course, takes more time and money but I was willing to do it. First, they put me in contacts with correction in both eyes with reading in my left eye and distance in my right. While I could see both distance and close up very well in those eye, the process created a big blurry spot in my center vision. They told me to where the contacts for a week to see if it cleared up. After a week, the blurry spot did not get better so I called. They told me I had to come back in. When I came back in they gave me to another doctor who had no clue what was going on. I asked again about my records from my prior doctor. Again, I was told that they did not have my prior records. As far as I can tell, they never tried to get them and really did not care. The new doctor thought that the lenses should be progressive lenses. So she gave me another set a lenses to try. I still had a blurry spot in my center vision. She that I should try them for a week and order the contacts that worked the best. Saland Vision uses an internet ordering service for contacts. I said that I was worried about how I would know which lenses would be the right ones. The doctor told me to order the lenses with 3 numbers on them to order the current set. The second set of contacts were worse than the first set. I really did not want to have to go back to Saland Vision to see yet a third doctor. I decided to order the first set even though they left a blurry spot in my vision. I ordere

Dr. Saland is beyond excellent!! My husband and I are so very fortunate and blessed to have her as our eye doctor! She gives wonderful care, listens intently to any of our concerns, and has great compassion toward her patients! She spends time with us, never rushing through our exams, and is so thorough explaining all aspects of our exam. I can't thank Dr. Saland and her staff ENOUGH for the wonderful care we receive. Has no people skills and does not explain things. Gave me an alarming diagnosis then promptly left without any further explanation. The office sent a bill well over a year after the appointment which is unlawful in Texas after eleven months. The bill should have been covered by insurance. Wait times on the phone are around an hour. It took hours of phone calls with them to send records to another doctor, then lied about sending them. My new doctor had same issues.

Dr. Saland is caring, smart, and dedicated to her patients. We are lucky to have her as a doctor.

Dr. Saland is extremely attentive and meticulous. She is also personable and kind to her patients.
