Everything went great

I have been a patient of Dr McCarthy's for 20 years. I have never spoken on the phone with him. I phoned into my pharmacy a request to have Alprazolam refilled before I go away for several days. He sent the pharmacy a cryptic message saying the request was denied. I have never abused this medication and usually attempt to refill past the date of prescription expiration. Two years ago my husband had a stroke which took his life. While I was caring for him, I asked the doctor to refill my prescription. He would not unless I came in for an exam. I didn't feel comfortable doing that and told him so. He still denied me the prescription. I took care of my husband for a year without any medication to get me through. No compassion there. There are so many more instances of lack of compassion that have taken place -- more than I can list here. I am a senior citizen and this puts more of a burden on me.

Every time I need a new prescription, I call it in and wait several days until it is phoned into my pharmacy. This happens with frequency. Now, instead of contacting the office for a prescription, I was told to call the pharmacy and they would contact the office. This makes the situation worse.

I think he is competent; but, prescription renewals have not been addressed in a timely fashion. It takes sometimes two days to access a prescription for refill. On occasion, the staff has not passed on messages to him. The rules for getting prescriptions, change all the time.

I moved to Warrenton, VA over 10 years ago. When I asked around and did on-line research, I chose Dr. McCarthy based on high ratings. For the last 10 years, I have been extremely pleased with the care that I have gotten. Dr. McCarthy is excellent at know what he can do about a problem. He doesn't play "Let's try this or that." He knows when to send me to a specialist or another Doctor for treatment. This approach has allowed me to get the correct treatment in a timely manner. Dr. McCarthy is an attentive doctor. When he comes in he always shakes hand, asks about family, and general non-medical things that I have shared with him. Makes me feel like he knows me and is interested in me. He provides follow-up on almost all problems that I have had. He has a low key friendly approach. He tells me what he thinks my conditions are and what I should do. Recently, I had a car accident that didn't require medical attention, however, when he found out about it, he let me know… that if I felt I needed to see him, just let him know and he would make time to see me. This was a real comfort to know that he thought of me as a person and not just a patient. I have been extremely pleased with the service that I have received from Dr. Kevin C McCarthy

I had to wait 30 minutes to see him. He rushed me so he never heard all my symptoms. He seems unempathtic for doctor.

Dr. Mccarthy is pleasant, low key and easy to talk to. I think he is very competent, he listens then does his examination and discusses his findings and impression of issues. He either treats your condition or refers you to a specialist as necessary. He is a refreshing change from my previous doctor who was always ready to prescribe more meds. I am very glad I changed doctors and would recommend Dr. McCarthy.

Dr. McCarthy is amazing! He is a man of few words, but the few are wise and compassionate. He is a good man and a fantastic physician.

I have been going to internal for about 5 years maybe 6 and I am happy to say that I have found a much better practice. There is a reason why piedmont internal medicine is fast in getting in patients...as a nurse colleague of mine puts it, "it's a cattle run." They get you in and spit you right back out. I have had misdiagnosis with two doctors, one of which landed me in the hospital due to my throat swelling literally shut because they are not thorough. I switched doctors and had Mccarthy for a while. I felt like he judged me. Don't get me wrong, he was always polite and willing to hear my concerns but I got the impression that he thought I was whiny I guess is the adjective. It got to the point where I loathed going to see him. My health issue was recurrent sinus infections. Nothing was helping nor working and the more my face ached like a grown man backhanded me as hard as he could, the more he would throw antibiotics "try this, try that" or say "come see me, next time we'll do… an xray on your sinuses." 5 appointments later, $100 not including med cost, and nasal steriods 4 antibiotic cocktails later I was tired of not being heard, tired of being a test zombie, tired that the problem was not going away despite voicing concerns, JUST FED UP. I researched a new doctor that had great reviews and switched. After one compassionate appt, instead of a new antibiotic he felt that it was allergies. He was spot on. 1 month of taking 2 allergy meds per day and I feel like a new woman! The point i'm trying to make is that only YOU know what your feeling. Trust your gut. I ignored mine until the last minute. No doctor should ever make you feel that you concerns are not valid or important enough to address. In another note, the whole place seems depressing. The staff while polite and courteous, look like they're sad to be there. The place gives off a bad vibe.
