Summary
I am a second-generation, native San Diegan, raised in San Diego. I attended San Diego State University as an undergraduate (I got a BA in psychology) and as graduate student (MS in counseling). I started my career in social services in Southern California. The twists and turns of life brought me to medicine as my second career. I attended the UC San Francisco School of Medicine, graduating in 1989. I trained in internal medicine at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco and became board certified in internal medicine in 1993. After finishing my residency, I was in private practice in Pennsylvania, returning to San Diego in 1997 to work for Kaiser Permanente San Diego. I am married with two children. I enjoy gardening, travel, crochet and knitting, and baking bread. I am active as a volunteer for our church and in our youngest son's Boy Scout troop.
