Dr. Mark Samir Boutros, MD

Dr. Boutros was the hospitalist in charge of my care during a recent stay. While he seems to have been accurate in his diagnosis and ordered an appropriate treatment plan, I remain very negatively impressed. Although my labs had returned within normal limits and all of the treatment I was receiving inpatient were available to be ordered as an outpatient, and there was no reason for me to remain hospitalized, Dr. Boutros refused to discharge me. I had been admitted due to an infection, received IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain medication appropriately. By my third morning in the hospital, my labs, again, were normal, my pain was merely discomfort, my diet advanced and was well tolerated, and my bowels were moving. With all that being the case, I believe I was subjected to this doctor's power trip. He advised me at one point I was welcome to sign out against medical advise which would have had dire financial repercussions for me. I feel he was exerting his little bit of authority to… make himself feel important, this apparently was boosting his ego enormously because he knew I was highly motivated to discharge and there was no medical reason for me to stay. Thankfully, the nursing staff was willing to page his superior who happily discharged me as was appropriate.
