Dr. Marlene C Bultemeyer, MD

I have seen many neurologists over the past ten years, and without a doubt, Dr. Bultemeyer is the most challenging one I have ever worked with. She’s cancelled appointments on me without telling me, referred me to a neurosurgeon for no reason whatsoever. At first, I really liked her; lately, though, her dismissive attitude toward me as a patient has left me pretty frazzled, gunshy and weary. If you can find other options, I would encourage you to pursue them.

Reviews can be confusing. Often you see great feedback and then terrible feedback, and that can leave you wondering which set of people to believe. I hope this one helps (apologies for the length). My mom suffered a small stroke two years ago. After, she started seeing Dr. Bultemeyer and she (the doctor) was great! She suggested therapy that would help, as well as referred us to a neuropsychologist that could help us determine if the dementia that followed the stroke was the result of the stroke itself or something more serious. On subsequent visits, Dr. Bultemeyer also took time to discuss with my mom her emotional health and took as much time as we needed to talk about her condition. Fast forward… On Labor Day weekend, my mom suffered a large stroke (we were told it was moderate at the hospital, but we were corrected later by another doctor). She was admitted to the hospital. The next day she was doing great in the morning, but in the afternoon, she took a turn for… the worse, and then worsened again over the following two days. She went from being weak on one side to immobile; eating regular food to pureed; using the bathroom to using a bedpan to incontinent; from speaking clearly to unintelligible. We were so scared she had another stroke while we were in the hospital. I was able to discuss the situation with the caregivers at the rehab hospital, and the doctor agreed to do another MRI. In the meantime, we really wanted to get her neurologist, Dr. Bultemeyer, involved. She has the documented history and has spent time with my mom. We felt like her eyes on the test results would be valuable, plus my mom was asking if she could see her. It would have given her peace of mind. My brother called a couple of times, and was able to speak with one of Dr. Bultemeyer’s nurses. She told him that she could and would request the information be sent from the hospital to the doctor and that because my mom was no longer in the hospital, but in the rehab facility, Dr. Bultemeyer could be involved in her planning. Since then we have not heard back. My brother left 8 messages. I sent an email and didn’t get a response. I know it can be tough working in the medical field for a variety of reasons. It’s because of that, that I’ve really tried to position myself as an advocate for my mom working closely with doctors, nurses, techs, and therapist as a member of a team. Dr. Bultemeyer hasn’t shown up for the game. It’s just unbelievable to me that we never heard back from her or her staff after weeks of attempting to reach her. When we needed her most, she wasn’t there.

Everything she could do wrong she did. Even went as far as to falsely report facts on my medical records after she found out I had talked to the CEO of her facility . Very dangerous, self centered and blinded by her title.

Cold and uncaring. Didn’t listen or let me ask questions

Dr Bultemeyer is very patient with all the questions my wife and I have. I feel very comfortable while I’m under her care.

If you want a doctor that listens or cares don't go to her. I wish I could give no stars. There was nothing good about my experience.

Extremely unprofessional and does not care about her patients.

Not qualified to deal with anyone who has multiple sclerosis just keeps adding more meds and very unprofessional
