Dr. Matthew Joel Kauffman, DO

Dr. Kauffman removed a benign tumor and I experienced an excellent outcome. His skills are outstanding! In addition to his excellence as a surgeon, he is kind and compassionate and treats his patients with the kind of care he would extend to his own family members. I also observed that he is generous with his knowledge and experience when interacting with medical students. He even gives his surgical patients a travel mug filled with mini candy bars as you leave. He smiles, he takes time with you, and he genuinely cares. I can't recommend him highly enough and would definitely seek him out for any future surgery.

I sustained a serious injury to my wrist - I broke both my ulna and radius. After my injury while lying in the ER bed with a severely deformed arm, I prayed that God would send me a good doctor that could help fix that horrible mess of an injury; I consider Dr. Kauffman to be an answer to my prayers, even above and beyond any of my expectations. He immediately fit me in for surgery, before which he explained everything completely & very clearly. He performed an ORIF of left wrist & carpal tunnel release. Went excellent. He even personally called my husband afterwards to give him details. Within 5 weeks post-op I had full range of motion & little if any pain! He treated me like a member of his family. You can feel completely confident with this guy. He’s the real deal.

I recently saw Dr. Kauffman for shoulder pain and loss of mobility. He tried other less invasive procedures before bringing up surgery as an option. After presenting his findings and explaining what surgery might be able to accomplish, he left the decision up to me without pressure. I opted to have the surgery (rotator cuff, partial tear of bicep tendon, arthritis). I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Four months later I feel I am 98% recovered with no pain.

I have been seeing Dr. Kauffman for years now. Most recently he did a knee replacement for me .He is very knowledgeable and takes his time in your appointment to explain things.. After years of treatment on my knee, a replacement was the last resort. He is a very caring Doctor and listens to your complaints

I went to Dr. Kauffman after having a lot of pain in my knee. Dr. Kauffman did a procedure on me called a micro fracture, which is drilling micro holes in your bone where you have missing cartilage to stimulate new cartilage growth.Dr. Kauffman explained the procedure in great detail in a couple different visits so I would know exactly what to expect. My recovery was rough but was told it would be which I appreciated and knew up front the approximate amount of time and pain I would endure. Dr.Kauffman and his staff treated me as a patient, but most importantly as a friend. I am 11 weeks out from surgery and walking with little pain and on my way to a full recover.

Dr. Kauffman is very friendly and courteous. He did a knee replacement for me and I have been completely satisfied with the results. He takes his time with you at your office visits and always seems to be concerned about your problem. You aren't rushed in and out of his office. I highly recommend Dr. Kauffman.

Dr Kauffman is an excellent physician. He is very attentive and spends time talking with me about my condition. I picked him based on all of the reviews I have read and I can see why everyone loves him!!

I am a survivor of a really bad automobile accident 17 years ago. I broke almost every bone south of my chest and was not expected to live from my injuries. I have had many interactions with doctors, nurse practitioners and other medical professionals over the years but few have come close to the level of care exhibited by Dr. Kauffman. He is engaged, interested, a great listener and is oriented toward relieving pain, increasing mobility and motivating those with physical issues to a higher understanding of their problems and the solutions available to them. I have been rushed by doctors to have operations that were not only unwarranted but totally unnecessary. Dr. Kauffman's approach places invasive surgeries as the last resort when strengthening, supportive, pain relieving options may provide relief to his patients. I trust his counsel, I appreciate his matter of fact approachability, his observations/treatments are based on interactive teamwork with his patients, not overbearing,… profit oriented bluster. He is in the profession to give back and help his patients achieve a better quality of life. What a great doctor...:-)

I was experiencing symptoms that my primary Doc just wasn't addressing. While seeing Dr. Kauffman for my ongoing knee problems, I was telling him about this. He said, "I care to much about you, to have you drop dead in my parking lot." He proceeded to order a battery of tests at HVCH that ended up revealing that I had to have a double bypass in addition to a bleeding duodenal ulcer, and an anemic condition.

I was referred to Dr. Kauffman by the VA through the Veterans Choice program. Excellent knowledge and clear explanation of procedures and therapies needed. He ordered an MRI, what was needed, instead of just more x-rays. Friendly office staff and Physicians!!
