Maxwell “Chip” McDonald, III, MD, genuinely enjoys working with cancer patients who seek positive health outcomes as a hematologist and medical oncologist at Willis-Knighton Cancer Center. His clinical focus is lung cancer and gynecologic cancer. The collaborative nature of Willis-Knighton's comprehensive cancer center is appealing to Dr. McDonald and his cancer patients.

A graduate of Louisiana State University Baton Rouge, Dr. McDonald remained in the LSU system for medical school. His internship, internal medicine residency and hematology/oncology fellowship were completed at LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine to practice medical oncology.

When not treating patients, Dr. McDonald enjoys time with his wife and three children, golf, exercise and investing.

Being diagnosed with cancer is not an easy experience. One feels helpless and fearful as they begin treatments to fight this dreaded disease. Dr. Maxwell McDonald, III made my experience so much easier. He put me at ease by providing me with a full understanding of what type of treatments I would be receiving and why I would be getting them. He answered all my questions and advised me what to expect during my treatments. I have now completed all my Chemo treatments and I would highly recommend Dr. McDonald to anyone facing the fight against cancer. He has the experience and knowledge needed to help his patients win their battle with cancer and go on to live productive lives. In addition, he has an excellent team of nurses and staff.

Even though I refused his treatment, for personal reasons, Dr. McDonald took the time to listen and gave me all the information I needed to make that decision. Had I chosen treatment, I would have chosen him. I would highly recommend him to anyone facing cancer. He really heartfelt wanted to help me. I was there for over an hour. No rush. He just listened and encouraged me to see the radiologist. He really wanted to heal me. It was a pleasure to go through that interview with him. He was concerned and caring and I could feel that.

I accompanied a friend of mine on her initial visit with Dr. Mcdonald III. I was very impressed by the compassionate and thorough way he explained the results of her condition. He quickly picked up on the way my friend wanted and needed straight forward and to the point answers. Because of this interaction he gained her trust immediately.

I am Caucasian and was diagnosed with cancer. Dr. McDonald blurted out to me”you have cancer, the treatments didn’t work, you have a couple of weeks or maybe a month or two to live.” Then he left the room.

Not sure where all of these 5 star reviews came from; pretty sure they are not African American patients. This man has horrible bedside manner, does not know how to talk to his patients, and does not know his treatment plans according to the NCCN guidelines. Word of advice:: stop cutting off patients in the middle of them speaking, don't be offended or have to run off when a patient has questions/concerns that you are supposed to address with you, and treat ALL patients fairly - you never now who you are dealing with.

Dr McDonald is the very best doctor I have ever seen. He is highly educated and actually graduated at the very top of his class.I love Dr McDonald's personal touch,love and kindness that he shows towards each patient. I would recommend him to anybody that I know. He saved my life!

Dr. McDonald truly cares about his patients and has excellent bedside manner. He has been called to a difficult profession and I am thankful for his commitment to providing wonderful care. Not to mention, he is so nice looking! :)Very courteous & friendly staff!
