Dr. Melissa Renella Ortega, MD

I was diagnosed with  Multiple Sclerosis in 2016 and put on Avonex immediately. I also discovered the Swank MS diet and went on it soon after being diagnosed. A few years later, my liver enzymes were affected and my neurologist said she had other patients who were just on the Swank diet, so I went off the Avonex and have just been on BEST HEALTH HERBAL CENTRE MS HERBAL TREATMENTS for several weeks. Now, 15 years after my diagnosis, my annual MRI shows no additional lesions and I have no disability. All my symptoms declined. I work as a realtor and interior designer and am on my feet all day. She is rude, and let’s her patients suffer. She wants to do as little as possible and get paid. She doesn’t take any time to actually teach us, her patients even though doctor is Latin for teacher I wish more doctors knew this. She will Not try and treat you within her allowance and will not even refer you out. She tells you to see a general physician for everything. When you see your general dr they will tell you as an MS specialist she should have ran those tests, etc. When you offer her constructive criticism that you don’t feel cared about she will tell you she wants you off her service and send you options for other neurologists, because she thinks she can do no wrong. When I inquired on if she supported starting a family, she said “Why would you want to do something like that when you cannot even care for yourself?” This was on our first meeting. So as an MS dr she does not believe women with MS should have children or be mothers. She also is very late on following up, blames… her part time hours and also blames UM for a lot that they don’t offer. In short, run! She is all about punching the clock, giving you infusions and does not care if you’re in pain or need referrals!

She is excellent! She truly cares for her patients. She takes the time to listen to her patients and explains everything as simply as she possible can. She will make sure you have a full understanding of everything that is going on before she will let you leave.

When I went to see Dr. Ortega , I wanted to get answers on my symptoms. My ms wasnt diagnosed yet and she would be the first one to tell me I had the disease. Her bedside manner sucks. She doesnt listen when you speak. She interrupts you. She always looks nervous and looks like her confidence is shot. When you tell patients that they have any illness, you want to be warm and open for questions. Dr. Ortega will shoot you down if you try. And whatever you do , DO NOT call after business hours with an emergency. She will belittle you as to why you bothered her on her off time. Overall, very disappointed. If I could give her zero stars, I would. And you know how sometimes there are those amazing doctors that know everything but are so rude and always remind you that you are wasting their time?kinda like dr. House? Well THAT I would put up with cause at least I know they understand my diagnosis and want to help get me better. With Dr. Ortega, you just can't be sure.

Dr. Ortega helped me through a very rough period following my diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis. She is very involved in MS reasearch , provides me with current treatment information and options, and if you go to the Plantation office, you will be seen very quickly. The Miami office, on the other hand, usually runs behind with appts. Overall, I am very satisfied with the medical care from Dr. Ortega

Just a waste of time and money, she did not know much. She also kept interrupting me when I spoke. She had limited knowledge of my problem. And did not listen.
