Dr. Michael J. Bernstein, MD

Dr. Bernstein is a very nice guy, fairly easy to talk to, but after seeing him for almost a year, he failed to diagnose the root of my severe depression. There was a medical cause, realitively easily treatable, that was later picked up by another physician. But if Dr. Bernstein would have made the diagnosis, I wouldn't have lost that year of my life to depression. The sad part of this story is that the diagnosis was fairly obvious, given my medical history. Once I knew what was wrong with me, and was able to research it on my own, I found that severe depression is one of the leading symptoms, and most frequently presented complications of my medical diagnosis. To be fair, my illness is fairly rare, but there is a reasonable amount of literature available on the Internet. Once I knew what to look for, I found a lot to help me--I can't help but think that a doctor just out of medical school could have found the correct diagnosis. This being said, I think that Dr. Bernstein is a fairly… competent physician and a very caring person; I think he slipped into complacency in my case and failed to challenge his own thinking when it was obvious I wasn't responding to treatment.

Best psych. doc ever had and I've had many. Excellent listener, open minded, no doc. ego to deal with, extremely intelligent, not a pill pusher, really cares about your personal situation. Would recommend him to anyone with a psychiatric problem, esp. one that seems treatment resistant.

Was told by his staff that Dr. Bernstein no longer was in practice. Can you imagine? He has an answering service for HIM and no practice. I was not asked if I needed to see ANYONE right away. DO NOT GO SEE THIS GUY!!!!
