Dr. Michael Su Chang, MD

Dr. Chang is very talented and his staff is first rate. My wife has Scoliosis and she is 75. Dr. Chang worked wonders and my life is much better since seeing him. Top notch doctor and staff.

I went to see Dr. Chang's assistant about possible neck surgery after having my legs and arms go almost completely numb. His assistant saw an urgency and made an appointment for me to see Dr. Chang in a week. When I went back to see him he said that my spinal compression on my MRI looked just like any 50 year old women and that there was nothing wrong with me. When I asked him about my numb legs he said he would order me a cane if I wanted him to. I ended up going to Barrows, Brain and Spine to see another surgeon and had surgery a few weeks later. The surgeon said my spinal chord was severely compressed and that it was a good thing I had the surgery when I did or I might have been paralyzed. Dr. Chang is very arrogant and did not take the time to listen or care about what was happening to me.

My rods broke and Dr. Chang made me wait 6 weeks to repair them. This was 2017 11/2 years after my lower back fusions. The rods vibrate and press on nerves and cause severe pain. Went to ER at Honor Health Hospital and one of his team mates saw me and said take pain medication. Pain medications do not stop nerve pain. I had to use a walker so I could walk and my muscles would stay strong. Now he would not see me after there was a pop in the lower right back again. Seeing his PA. 2022

Great! Very informative he explained the pros and cons of the surgical procedure. Put my mind at ease.

Dr Chang is great. His demeanor is so comforting, you feel very confident in his diagnosis. No one else I would trust for spinal surgery. He did my first one 9 yrs ago and will do my second in a few months.

He was detail about what need to be done and clean office.

Dr. Chang has an excellent bedside manner. He takes time to explain what is wrong and the procedure to fix it.

Dr. Chang is very personable and patient in explaining what all options are so I can make the best decision for my treatment.

Dr. Chang performed a 7 level fusion of my spine in 2016. As soon as I woke up he asked if I could move my right leg which I thought that was a little strange. I was in a rehab hospital for 6 weeks due to slow progress. As time passed I had several falls. Chang said he could "guarantee" there was no nerve damage. My PT suggested I get an EMG which showed severe nerve damage in and around the L4 nerve -- use of right leg. Had an MRI w/ another surgeon and there was a screw just laying on the L4 nerve. He told me to go back to Change, who agreed to do a revision surgery. He first asked why I didn't want to use a cane or walker.... I went into the surgery with back pain but I could still function. I wouldn't have had the surgery based on this outcome. My right leg is ¾ numb which will never change. I have fallen at least 20 times, broken ribs three of those times. Because of the nerve damage I don't have good toe clearance so trip easily. I don't have the ability to recover so I go… down hard and fast. The nerve damage affected the muscles and nerves that you use to break a fall. I have a limp due to the weakness in right leg. This doctor is rude and one of the most arrogant doctors I have ever met. I went to another surgeon who the revision surgery. I got some strength back in met leg but the issues the lead to my falls are damaged nerves and nothing could be done about those.
