Dr. Michael R Stever, DO

Dr Stever removed an ovarian cyst several years ago. It was supposed to be laparoscopic but when I woke up, I had an 6 inch incision down my abdomen. I remember him loudly announcing that he had to open me while I was trying to wake up in recovery. I was only 22 at that time. 9 years later, I was married and we had been trying for years to have a child. We finally were able to with some help after 3 years. I had to have a c-section and after the baby was born, my dr asked if I knew that I only had one ovary. I did not know that at all. He said there was a little sliver of tissue but that’s all that was left. Dr Stever removed my ovary during the cyst removal and neglected to mention that to me. We were lucky to have one child, but were never able to have another. It feels like he stole something from me that I’ll never get back. I don’t like to live in the past, but if we would have known, we would’ve been better equipped to deal with that fertility issue. I was prepared… to deal with his poor bedside manner, but to withhold medical information like that- there is just no excuse. I don’t know if he is practicing anymore, but he is the very last ob/gyn I’d ever go to.

I have been a patient of Dr. Stever's for over 14 years and I would highly recommend him. He is always friendly and gentle and tells you the facts. He genuinely cares about you and your baby and spends time answering any and all questions that you may have. I am glad that he was there to deliver both of my children. I am sceptical of the negative comments here as I have never seen any kind of rude or rough behavior from Dr. Stever. After surgeries or the birth of my children, he always made sure to call me at home to see how I was doing. His nurse and secretary are the sweetest! Best OB!!

I saw doctor Stever for the first time today. He works in an office where there are three other OBs and this happened to be his week. While I VERY much appreciated the fact that he went through each and every page of my current pregnancy record with me, and reviewed all of my test and lab results very thoroughly (he has been the first doctor to do this so far), I did not feel that his bedside manner was up to par. He was extremely rough with me, to the point that I have felt uncomfortable the rest of the day. I do not feel that he violated me in any way, however I do feel that he was more rough than he needed to be to do my exam. I was very sore after and have had significant bleeding, which has never happened before. I am 39 weeks pregnant and already have enough on my mind without having to deal with an uncompassionate doctor... and I believe in this field you should have a certain amount of empathy for your patients. So, as I said - he is certainly experienced and informative,… however he is not gentle or kind by any means. Would not recommend if bedside manner is of importance to you, but do realize that he is a very smart man.

I've been a patient for about 8 years I think. What I like about Dr.Stever is most likely what others complain about. Meaning I like his just the facts demeanor. He has always been informative, he has always kept me in the loop as far as test results, calling me himself to fill me in, calling me at home after miscarriages and successful deliveries to see how I am doing. He always seems to have the highest regard for keeping you and your baby healthy. If you bring up an issue he takes the time to address it. Sometimes blunt and straight to the point but like any doctor this guy has a lot to do in a day and has more than one patient. Now if you're the type of person who wants a Dr that will sit and cry with you he may not be your guy but don't mistake that for lack of caring. His staff is efficient and great to talk to and will do all they can to get you seen if you need to. My only complaint is the occasional long wait time since he is the only doctor there if he's called out to… deliver a baby you're going to be waiting, but again that's to be expected in the field. I trust this office and Dr. Stever with my and my baby's well being and would recommend him to anyone.

BIG PICTURE: Getting my baby into the world safely despite any obstacle that may arise. Did Dr. Stever come through? ABSOLUTELY! After 26 hours of labor with my daughter which ended up in an emergency c-section after she tilted her very large head during delivery, Dr. Stever successfully delivered my beautiful 9 lb. 8 oz 21 inch long baby girl. Mommy had a 6 day stay in the hospital after Dr. Stever took every precaution to ensure that I was alright after such a difficult labor. 3 years later, after my husband, daughter and I moved away, he delivered my 10 lb. 2 oz. baby boy that was TWO WEEKS EARLY and would be an estimated 12 lb. birth had he been in the womb any longer. I traveled over an hour to EVERY APPOINTMENT and then waited patiently to see the one person I trust to get me and my children through anything. In response to the bedside manner - he's a brilliant man with a lot on his mind. His habits may be different but when it comes down to the wire - this man has every bit of… my respect and I would recommend him to anyone.
