Dr. Norbert Gleicher, MD

Not professional, poor bedside manner and does not provide good individualised care. The office is focused on taking your money and selling you their DHEA. After spending thousands of dollars there on several IVFs he gave me an "egg donor speech" comparing having a biological child vs. egg donor child to a top of the line and a lesser car which was extremely inappropriate. Once he did not show up for my appointment after I waited for over an hour. The stuff is also not professional at times - loud laughter while they prepare your IVF, nurses yelling at you etc. I moved my fertility care to another place and am a happy mom now to a healthy child. I cannot recommend this place at all.

The listing is wrong. Dr. Gleicher is not in Chicago any more. I saw him in New York, at the Center for Human Reproduction. I was pretty desperate after seeing a couple of reproductive endocrinologists who had no clue as to why I wasn't getting pregnant, but Dr. Gleicher suspected that my family's history of autoimmunity had something to do with it, and gave me a (long!) list of tests to see if that's the case. After a couple of weeks, I saw him again with the results, and voila, two of the items on the autoimmune panel were positive. Nobody ever suggested I take these tests until I went to Dr. Gleicher! Then we did an IVF cycle that didn't result in a pregnancy, but in the second cycle, I got pregnant! For years I went through treatments without the embryos implanting, and now I'm in my second trimester. Dr. Gleicher prescribed a few medications to control my autoimmune issue, and that seemed to have worked. I'm so happy I went to Dr. Gleicher before giving up. The wait time in… the office can be long, but I experienced that in all the offices I've been to, so I don't hold that against CHR. I like that they let me speak with the doctor for a good amount of time every time I need to. This is not usually the case at fertility centers where you get to see your doctor only once at the beginning.

New York magazine may have named him "The Bargain Baby-maker" but at what cost? Not only did my ivf cycle fail but I was overstimulated--an extremely painful experience (excruciating to walk or bend down) that Dr. Gleicher underplayed. Only after going elsewhere (a university research hospital) did I recognize how "off" this clinic is: from the arrogant staff (that "barks" at you from the moment you call), the secretive waiting room atmosphere, the cookie-cutter injection instructions (vs. the daily minute changes I experienced at the university research hospital), the casual dismissal "all's ok" when I was clearly overstimulated, the poorly handled call by the nurse informing me the cycle failed to mistyped claims which have me fighting for insurance coverage many months later. So bargain doctor? No. If you are interested in a bargain, go to Cornell Weill where you will end up paying the same amount and know that you are giving yourself the best chances for success by going to the… cutting-edge pioneers of infertility treatments. I did; my first cycle was a success (I am now in my third trimester)... and I felt uniquely cared for throughout the entire process.

I would recomend him to my frieds and family!! the best doc ever
